  • Good to hear Dave, I would also like to say at no time was I bagging the product or the person from Chip It (direct manufacturer) who has been trying to and organised to resolve the problem for you next tuesday. These things happen some times through some one been either lazy or not concentrating on what there doing and could have led to you been stranded some where which luckily wasnt the case. Good to see a business like Chip It fix the issue and not pass the blame and followed through with it all. Wish other business's were as prompt. At leas then you will be able to get the service done at Toyota lol............Cheers Steve

      • I finally made the decision to install a ChipIt chip in to my Prado. It took about 15 minutes to fit up. Only because getting to the fuel rail connector requires wrists that can bend in about 5 directions at once!
All went as it was supposed to and it makes an awesome difference to the drivability. On the factory Tune 5, I am quite happy with it right there. I have a manual and it's very noticeable that I can hold a higher gear and use the massive increase in torque to advantage.

My only criticism would be in the instructions that could possibly provide images of what a completed install should look like, as far as running the looms etc. Kind of no choice really but the loom lengths are a bit annoying. Not a problem with the product, more me liking everything neat and tidy.

In summary, very happy and highly recommended.

Regrets: I should have chipped the 200 series that I just traded but then again now that the Prado goes so much better I don't miss the big V8 as much!

        • if thats the only criticism we are happy.

In fairness, yep, the final fitup look could be added to the manual. Agreed.

          • Chip It,

I haven't installed my unit yet and just wonder if the cables are long
enough to allow the unit to be fitted in the cabin area?

            • Depending on route, sometimes they are. However it s perfectly safe when kept in the stubby cooler looking thing and the weather proof nylon pull cord bag.

BTW. If interested. Chip It will still be accepting orders after the break (23rd Dec – 9th Jan) with skeleton staff. Phones may not be manned during this time. (fax and emails orders will be seen to as mentioned)

Orders will be sent out twice a week so delays of up to 1 week may be experienced between your Direct Deposit or Visa payment and order processing.

And we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support over 2011 and would like to wish you All a Very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year.

              • My first post here, so feel free to correct me if I'm not posting correctly.

Has anyone fitted a ChipIt module to their SWB Prado 155 (SX or ZR)?

I got one fitted recently thinking that the early problems listed in this thread were now solved with a new release 5 volt module.
                Unfortunately not in my case.
I have the latest module/software combo (confirmed by ChipIt) but the car fails to start reliably every time - just turns over and over. The ChipIt guys have sent a replacement module that is internally earthed differently thinking it may have a similar earthing issues to the early 12 volt versions but this only made the issue worse.

Has the starting issue (and others) been resolved with the newer modules/software or have I misread the thread?

                • Hi Snappy666. Strange that you are experiencing this as I do not know anyone else who is. All other issues with starting on Prado was resolved by adding an earth strap from vehicle to chip. The issue was done and dusted. May I suggest you call us for some tech support. We can ask some questions about the install.

                  Cheers

                  • Gday Chip it,

Can you fill us in on dyno figures for a manual 150 TD ? I took a peek at the website, but that dyno sheet was alittle hard to make sense of ? After torque and KW figures, want to look at a chip it module for towing and down low off road...

                    Cheers,

                        • please give us a call ... seems like an installation/wiring harness issue WITH YOUR CHIPS. The Prado is our 3rd best seller and if it was an issue with these cars we would know about with many tech support issues every day.

Happy to help guys. Just contact us before you bag us out LOL.

                          • Well it seems that I have found a solution to my ChipIT starting problems.

After a few emails and phone calls to ChipIT the car is now running trouble free. Many thanks to Justin @ ChipIT.

My original ChipIT unit/s have now been replaced by an 'injector only style' unit and an additional boost controller with high/low boost switch (both supplied by ChipIT). The units were supplied as a replacement for my original units and even had return post bags for the old chips - absolutely no cost to me. (Thanks again Justin/ChipIT).

The original unit/s with starting issues were producing 163.9hp @ the rear wheels (only had access to a 2WD dyno) with a setting of 8. New chips are now producing 161.4rwhp (high boost) & 153.6rwhp (low boost).
Unfortunately I did not get a dyno before fitting my snorkel and full 3" exhaust (turbo back) but the car produced 127rwhp in this form.
The real world difference in drive-ability between the new and old chips is like chalk and cheese. I actually prefer the tuning in the new chips as the turbo boosts earlier in the rev range making it 'launch' quicker and smoother from a standing start. Gear shifts from the auto also seem smoother & the mid range throttle response is also better.

                            • I'm having the same starting problem since switching to the 5volt module had no starting problems with the old one

                              • Mine has been trouble free since changing to the 5 volt version. Very happy. I'm fascinated and intrigued as to why the exact same vehicles have such varying results. I wonder if where the actual chip is being mounted has something to do with it? Perhaps it's getting some sort of interference from being mounted against another wiring loom etc.? Who knows but is there a correlation between these faults and vehicles with automatic transmissions? Do the vehicles in question have after market tires fitted with lower amounts or no Kevlar in the compound? It just spins me right out.
