Your correct. There is more 150's popping than 120's.
    Lower Klm's too.

Everybody must do a DIAGNOSTIC every 10,000klms.

Does every mechanic know how to do one and what should they be looking for?

I thought about this before i rebuilt mine......I have a SSV wagon with a cammed L98. I imagined that sort of engine in the Prado......But went in the too hard basket. Should of looked into it more.........

Its on my list in case mine ever blows up. Was originally thinking of the lexus 1uz or 2uz, but i think that an LS1 or LS2 would probably be better, bit better power and there are plenty around for availability of parts

I get the distinct impression that Mr M has lascivious urges whenever he gazes upon my LSA. I am sure it is not normal to take such please stroking an engine cover. Naturally I have increased the alarms and have guard dogs and taipans under the bonnet. He wouldn't know what to do with half a megawatt and a kilonewtonmetre anyway... Would he?

By the way the LS3 is the pick of that generation of naturally aspirated engines. I had an LS2 and then an LS3 and the 6.2L is much more than just another 200cc.

The Chipit massively over pressurises the rail. It's really noticeable if you listen when the engine is cold. Chipit supplied me with a temp sensor to cut the chip until the engine is warm. I ran the chip for about a 1000kms and got rid of it because of the rail pressure issues.

Most of the chips other than Steinbauer over pressurise the rail. I would imagine that it changes the warranty situation as it is a major change to the engine design parameters.

I hope the new engine for the Prado is better, don't want to harp but if you push old fashioned technology to new levels of horsepower and torque in small engines then we see these results. Makes petrol engines look a hell of lot better on performance, longevity and overall running costs.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

We bought a new Skoda a couple of years ago and chose petrol over diesel. Amazing car, great to drive and averages 7l/100km commuting around town and sub 6l/100km on the open road. More grunt than my previous 2.4l Honda and 30% less fuel.

It's a small petrol engine that uses some form of direct injection that sounds similar to a small diesel. Seems all engines are heading the same way to improve economy and reduce emissions.

The Toyota D4D is pretty low stressed engine, so getting more power is not the problem, it's how you do it. TRD used to sell a chip for this engine in Europe, but it didn't just raise rail pressure.

Elephant in the room. The rattle from our diesels is not the injectors. Nothing that small that moves so little could make such a loud noise. It's detonation. May be caused by leaky injectors but if your car is rattling back off your throttle til she warms up. Then you won't blow up your engine.

It's not the injector that makes the noise but the fuel combustion. When the injector doesn't do its job such as bad spray pattern or slow open / close or even pressure of the rail can make noises.
