Thanks to #### and all the others for their help. Had an EGR clean yesterday which went very well. Not too much build up but still a pain in the a$$ to clean out and that was only after 23,000. A little plate happened to fall past my arm when connecting it all back together and all is going well so far. Immediate result in the volume of clean air up to around 19 mm3/sec from around 8 so almost two and a half times the volume. Injectors were pretty good, although number 3 stayed at -1.1 until warm but injector volume was down around 7.

Overall very happy with how things went.

he then said when pushed that 4 was 'around 3.5' but 'settled down' once warm.

      final values were
      no.1 -0.5
      no.2 -0.4
      no.3 -0.4
      no.4 0.9

Am i being fed BS? the car is still under warranty....
      How many Klm's?

      Roger that!

Is this advice regarding having injectors checked every 10,000km, the stated injector values that are considered acceptable and comments that about 120,000km is the usable life for injectors specific to prados, or is it across the range of all common rail diesels? Should i start to get concerned about my other car which is a holden colorado with the 3lt isuzu motor.

The early colorado, same as the dmax, was a fairly good engine as far as injectors go from my experience. Injectors tend to go for a bit longer, 180,000Km is the earliest I have personally seen one requiring attention without a fuel contamination issue (water in fuel, etc.). The biggest issue they seem to have is the EGR clogging the inlet manifold. Is yours a manual? If so be very careful if you use it off-road, the clutch mechanism is very susceptible to corrosion in the bell housing and can be quite expensive and a pain in the ass to fix.

Bugger - more stuff to worry about.
Yep, manual. Gets used off road monthly (beach).
Can any inspection be done to assess condition? Or is it just a wait for failure deal? Will it fail engaged?
Sorry to hijack a thread on non prado topic

All good mate, under the vehicle on the left side are two access covers on the bell housing held on with 10mm headed (I think, maybe 12mm) bolts. With these off you can get the hose up in there and wash all the crap out. Then have a look up in there you will see a pin the clutch fork pivots on, spray that all down with inox or similar. It won't fail engaged, it will fail in the fact when the clutch wears out (or more often the pressure plate fails) the mechanic can't remove the through pin to allow the box to come out (they are a pull type clutch). The only solution to this is just yank on it hardcore until the clip holding the thrust bearing into the pressure plate lets go, then cut the mount on the gearbox for the pin and replace the lot. Have done this 5 times so far, but have done probably 30-40 clutches. I guess if you want to talk more about it we could start another thread? You never know, someone else could own one of these too.

Just got techstream finally set up so will be keeping an eye on things. did a cold test last night and all were good except no. 4 which started at 2.4 then settled to 0.9 once warmed up.

from now on Monday night is techstream night!

                              #### et al:

Recently my fuel useage seemed to go from about 14L/100 straight up to 17l/100 after half a tank (perhaps 500km). I had done two things in the preceeding days: Clean my MAF sensor and added some diesel additive (do it once every 6 months or so). But it forced me to get out the laptop and attempt to get the techstream program working (something I'd given up on).
I had "He who shall not be named" replace my injectors at the 78,000km mark, which was about 14,000km ago.

I finally got the techstream working, and while the feedback values were OKish, the Injection Volume had me a bit concerned after reading this thread.

Yesterday, I took this photo just after engine start (cold), and of note the volume, circa .

However after reading this thread, I realised I started the engine with A/C and radio on.

I then tried it again this arvo, with all accessories off, however the engine was warm (Bloody hot in Brisbane today).

                              13.92 straight after start:

And after a few minutes it settled back to about 9.1

As I said, about 14,000km had all 4 injectors replaced (New Denso), EGR clean and restrictor plate installed, catch can.

                              I'm concerned by Anthonys statement:
The top one, main injection volume is out. Hot: 5-6 is growse, 7-8 is ok, 9-10 is getting there. 11-12 is book it in, 12+ cancel all bets.
I've had another diagnostic with service 4000km ago, and all appeared good. Time to be concerned????
