    Hi,

    Has any one done the clearances?

    Is it worth doing or are they usually pretty good

    Tossing up wether to pull it apart and do them or just wait till it needs injectors

    Just wait until it needs injectors, that's what I advise all my customers and I have never had a valve clearance problem with a 1KD. Why open up a perfectly good engine and risk introducing contaminants just because? There are many others with the same idea.

      How many km? How are your injectors?

        They seem fine no rattle or smoke on start up have not tested values however

        It's just hit 120k been services every 10 before I got it at 90 and been done every 5 since with fuel filters at every 10

          At 120k valve clearances should be checked in the service but more importantly get those injector feedback values!

            What's the best way to get them checked
            Is there a way to do it with the scan gauge?

              Scan gauge no, tech stream yes. Have a look through the D4D pages here and in the 120 section. There is a bit to it and all has been covered before. I don't know where Helens place is in relation to anywhere else but you may be near Baileys or Baileys may be able to suggest someone. I have tech stream but to date just get Toyota to do it at 40k intervals. The test has to be done cold. Others who use tech stream might jump in.

                If the injectors are within spec then usually the valve clearances will stay good for a long time even up to 100,000km. They're not prone to excessive wear or falling out of spec. If the car isn't overly rattly (Toyota techs only do an audible check for noise) the valve clearances can be checked with an injector change out. Otherwise the injectors have to be removed to do the valve clearances.

                    Yes, plenty.

                    Yes.

                    Do them with injectors at 120,000k.

                    Usually ok, often just out of spec, which is actually ok. Seldom a long way out, not good.
