A couple of months ago I upgraded my 2010 D4D GX to a 2014 D4D GXL that had just over 18000km's on the clock.
I'm enjoying the car except for one annoying foible that I don't remember having in my old one.
Under acceleration or load such as going up a hill, I can hear this whistling droning sound similar to the sound of strong wind whistling over a wire or through the trees.
Seems to come on around the 1800rpm mark and quietens down at cruising speed, but touch the throttle just a bit and it becomes noticeable again.
I'm thinking it may be coming from either the turbo or the transmission. Not having been in any other Prado except my own I'm unable to say if this is a normal noise or not. I do know what a normal turbo whistling sound is and this doesn't sound like that.
My old Prado had a snorkel and Lukey Sports muffler fitted, maybe that had some bearing on why I don't remember ever hearing this noise from it.
Before I go complaining to my local Toyota dealer and probably get told they cant hear anything, does anyone else have this sound in their Prado or have any suggestion what it might be?
