I called into a exhaust shop today to ask there advice on a slight note for the Prado. The guy suggested cutting out the crapola factory beast like muffler and replacing it with a smaller magnaflow unit. Anyone done anything similar? I want just a slight noise with nothing loud and farty he said should sound very nice ????$350 might be worth giving it a crack.

Yes. Lots of us did. There are a couple if threads on that subject, but have a look at my rig build where I have detailed how I went for me on the D4D. But if you pay more than $200 you have paid too much. I paid $150

Mine was the muffler that the exhaust guy fitted. Have no idea what brand, just that it was a straight through and it helps helped a lot. That was on a D4D though.

If you come visit me at work Daz you can have a listen of mine, mine is a full system though.
Otherwise the guys at RAMP were very good and knew what they were doing... (if you wanted a recommendation)
mine is a 120 though, but should be similar.2004 Prado GXL. v6 auto, ARB deluxe bar, exhaust, 2" EFS lift kit, Outback Acc rear bar,
rallye 2000 spots, roof mount dvd, dig_options stereo, toyota roof bars.

Tyres are noisier than the exhaust...
I originally had a magnaflow 2.5 cat back, but it was too drony, and I didn't like the way it went into the 1 pipe from the 2.
had it changed to a larger muffler and then a resonator at the back, much better.2004 Prado GXL. v6 auto, ARB deluxe bar, exhaust, 2" EFS lift kit, Outback Acc rear bar,

I assume yours is a petrol KAKADAZ, and you will have the drone/resonance noise unless you have a second small muffler at the rear.
Have a stainless system on my GXL petrol, back from the 'Y' junction of the 2 manifold pipes. The muffler is about the same length, but about 19cm wide and 12cm high, through to a small muffler at the rear. No drone, however, the noise is deeper, and mid range acceleration is a bit quicker.
The installer told me that Toyota fit some sort of wire gauze in the 'Y' piece, so he removed this from mine.Last edited by yowie; 29-08-2012, 03:33 PM.
