G'day, I have a diesel 150 series which I use to charge the batteries of my camper trailer whilst holidaying. To top up the charge I would need to run the prado on idle for around an hour or two.. Any one have an estimate on how much fuel this would use ?

Re: Idling fuel consumption
I'm with samo on this one - bugger all...
The holden V8 i was driving around last time i was home listed the instantaneous fuel usage at 2 litres per hour while at idle.
So i would hazard a guess that the prado would be less than that?2014 D4D 150 GXL Automatic - CHARCOAL

Re: Idling fuel consumption
This does not answer the fuel consumption question, but instead of idling the Prado for an hour or two, would you not be better of investing in a solar panel?,the continual idling will definitely not do wonders for your 60000 plus dollar investment, diesels will glaze if left idling for long periods of time just offering some useful advice

Idling fuel consumption
Thanks for the replies. Less than 2litres is good &should do the trick... I have a 80w solar panel which I was going to mount ontop of the camper trailer roof but leaving in 2days & no room to carry ( don't want a gennie either). The prado usually pumps 20amps per hour into the batteries if the charge is low ...2010 Prado GXL D4D Auto , BFG A/T , DVD Console , Tekonsha P3 , Projecta Dual battery system , Piranha dual battery tray..
