  • Which iPod cable?

How do I plug my iPod into the socket(s) on my 150 GXL? Do I use the Aux socket or the USB socket or both? (Some cars seem to use a split cable going to both sockets)
I want to be able to control the iPod through the car's audio system, and not have to fiddle with the iPod.

I use the aux if i want to control it through car's audio interface. I think the usb is for just charging(in case of ipod) and you cannot control the ipod through the car's audio interface.

That's my problem. If I use the Aux via a cable from the iPod headphone socket, the audio screen just says aux & none of the controls work: it's just substituting the speakers for the headphones and all control is via the iPod.

The Aux input allows you to contol the music from your ipod or Iphone however the quality is slightly less then USB. If you use the USB, that allows your to use the controls on the steering wheel, Charge your Ipod/Iphone at the same time and you get better quality output.

        Hope that helps

I also use the USB interface but, if you want to listen to a play list or setup the music to shuffle etc. I have found that you need to start this on the ipod first and then plug the ipod into the USB. Once plugged into the USB you can move tracks forward and back via the steering wheel.

Maybe you can pair as a bluetooth device similar to iPhone, depends if your model iPod has bluetooth support, I know some of the newer ones like the iPod touch do.

Use the USB interface. Just don't be to push happy when using the menus. Also if you have iPhone you can set the phone to bluetooth and use the iPod side through the cable.

The head deck will drive the iPod/Phone the same way as set out on your iPod, including shuffle and repeat, it just takes a bit of time to learn to work it. There is instruction in your owners manual.

OK I'll try the USB route.
                Cheers,

I have used both techniques in a VX Limited (NZ version of cross between GXL and Kakadu):
AUX: you must use the ipod controls to select your music which can be cumbersome whilst driving unless you make your own mixes on ITunes; make sure you adjust the volume of the Ipod once music starts playing--e.g.rotate wheel clockwise
USB: the head unit will control via the screen but is cumbersome to use when selecting different songs, e.g. with Ipod you can scan via the menu whats available without turning the music off
