  • Toyotas fixed price servicing ????

I had my 20,000k service done today and chose the $75 extra charge for Magnatec "synthetic" rather than non (rip off I know) but I had them use that oil for the first service so stuck with it, then received a call to ask would I like a chemical bacteria flush through my AC which is $139 on top of the base $210. I said no to the AC flush but yes to the hand brake adjustment which cost $45.....is a handbrake adjustment not warranty? All up $330 or $469 with AC flush and I asked about doing the air filter which isn't due until next service but at another $120 just for that ( filter was $79 from spare parts) so $41 labour for unclipping four clips haha...so $589 if I did the air filter. I think I may spend the $100 and get a K&N filter.
I'm still jacked at the handbrake charge what do you think?

Checking and adjusting handbrake should be part of a standard service I would think...

I would'nt have thought the hand brake needed adjustment at 20,000k's?

Our 120 was done once in 70,000, the 150 has done 27,000 and the hand brake is as new.

      I'd be feeling ripped off.

Yeah handbrake should definitely be a part of the service as its safety/emergency equipment.

I'm thinking they touched you up Daz.

If you refer to this doll, they touched you right about here (points to bottom).

I would be telling them to stick the $75 charge up the same area on their doll.

I've had to have mine done a heap of times, I.even got told to book it in for a full day as I was complaining it wouldn't hold. They then tried to charge me $480 to re bed the handbrake and adjust it. I ended up complaining to Toyota customer service because it was not holding after another 5000 km!

In short I would refuse to pay. not to mention the $40 for the air filter change!

No Doll I will show them my own personal area in which I feel assaulted...

Agree though I would have thought a safety device is their responsibility...I will email Toyota Australia today.

Toyota Australia's reply will be along the lines of "We cannot be held responsible for the actions of one dealership as they are all seperately owned" etc etc.
Maybe they got you on the oil, and figured they would see what else they can get you on. Might be cheaper to supply your own oil next time, and ask them the refund the amount allocated for their oil.

Hey Kakadaz, they have to Inspect the filter anyway, so they have already taken the clips off and the filter out.
There is NO extra work unless they are charging you for someone walking over to the shelf for the filter LOL.

I'm wondering why you didn't use their oil - surely they will tell us that the Toyota branded oil is the best money could buy.

They might have us over a barrell with the handbrake adjustment charge - the book only says to inspect. How easy is it to adjust, anyone tried it?

If it needs adjusting at 20,000k's, then you'd expect they would cover it for you. If it's likely to need regular adjusting, then they should have it on the service schedule.

If they're inspecting the filter during the service, the clips should already be undone, which means that they're charging you and hours labour to pull the filter off the shelf and plonk it on in. Do it yourself.

I'm coming up to my 50,000k service. So far i haven't paid more than $210 for any service. I've asked them to do a number of things (adjust headlights down, check for cause of creaking seat) and they haven't charged me. They've also used a number of parts (and i guess associated labour) for which i haven't been charged. These were all little things like washer fluid but it can't take them much longer to replace an air filter than it does to top up the washer reservoir, and i didn't get charged labour for that. It may cost them 2/10 of FA, but it's a gesture of good will that hasn't gone unnoticed.

I'd be looking around for somewhere else to do your servicing. Or, get them to do the $210 service and diagnose what needs to be done, then take it to someone else to get fixed.

Honda just as bad - charged $16.50 for a $2 battery for the key, plus an extra 1/4 hour labour to change it.

I asked them to check the back door it had a rattle over bumps and on the freeway when cruising at 100kph if I back off then accelerate you get a thud from the tail shaft so I thought I might as well ask. They fixed both at no charge (so they should) so all good there. They recommend on the V6 upgrading to a synthetic oil (they use a magnatec synthetic) I questioned that magnatec is not synthetic they said the one they use is. It sh1ts me that its $75 to upgrade which involves no extra labour and I doubt anything is credited back for the oil they don't use...BUT I had it but in at first service so sort of feel stuck with it I don't really want to switch back. I will question the handbrake charge though I just thinks its a wrought..I also noticed last night a tiny door dent in the passenger door which is new I can't 100% guarantee it was from being crammed in a busy Toyota car park all day but Im pretty sure that is wasn't there the day before I washed the car so was looking at it the day before.

Did they replace the tail shaft or pack it with grease? My replacement shaft has arrived this week.

They said they adjusted and greased but it seems spot on now...It wasn't that bad I had to almost try and make it do it and it didn't do it once coming to a stop like some do but I thought why not mention it.
