  • Are your seat runners painted?

    Hi Guys,
I removed the 3rd row seats from my 150 series GXL in August last year and have not bothered putting them back in the car however I was moving them to a more permanent storage location at home and discovered a weird thing.

When I looked at the metal frame that bolts into the car, and the seat slides on it appears it was never painted. At first I thought it might have been coated with a galvanising type coating but it looks like where I have touched it there is some surface rust and it looks like the welds have never been painted over.

I will try to get some pics in the next few days, but to me it doesn't seem like the kind of thing I would expect from a $60k car - especially one likely to spend at least some of its life exposed to salt air.

Seems pretty poor from Toyota, wonder what happens in 5 years time when they have been in high humidity and start rusting?

        Why wait 5 years.

Took my 3rd row seats out this afternoon and was surprised at what I found...

Yeah I live in Sydney but not near the coast and have never driven on the beach. Did a few river crossings on the way to Bendethera last year but didn't expect this.

Guess I've got a bit of cleaning up to do before the drawers go in and a chat with Mr Toyota about the seats

Not difficult to remove. Took me about an hour.

There's a link to instructions on Toyota Tech in the below post that will get you half way through. There are about 8 more bolts to remove but easy to find
