  • Bluetooth Audio Streaming - Prado 150 Altitude

Hey guys, thought I should share with everyone my slight frustration I have with bluetooth audio streaming with the Prado Altitude. Firstly, it doesn't have any just in case you didn't already know. When I had a test drive with a GXL that was something that was advised by the dealer it had, and he also showed me how it worked nicely so I didn't bother to check again with the Altitude.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Altitude, though I also love my music. Due to the Sat Nav being installed in the Altitude, this feature is not available as the Sat Nav is not compatible with Bluetooth Audio streaming (A2DP). Sure it has a USB interface, and Aux In and I get around this though more messy cables.

There are vehicles 15 - 20k that have this as a standard feature. I don't know what Toyota was thinking?

    That's my whinge for tonight:-)

      I agree George,

I also found this out when I picked up my VX from the dealer. Mine has the same SatNav as yours. I spent over an hour with the dealer techies to try and get this working. even they thought it was strange that it didn't work!

I ended up just connecting my iPod via the USB, but as you said... More cables!

      Cheers,

      Jeff

I have the same unit as D4D. But I have a Lacie MosKeyTo 16GB USB drive that is permanently attached to the headunit for MP3s.

I also found out the hard way. I upgraded from a 150 GXL where I enjoyed the streaming audio and now, don't have that luxury anymore. Not a major drama, as everyone says, you can just use the iPod cable BUT you can only listen to audio stored in the iPod/iTunes app and nothing else. I use Downcast to manage my podcasts and use to play them by streaming audio as the Pado can't see audio outside of the iPod app - can't do this anymore.

          Talk about first-world problems!

Having said that, absolutely love the Altitude and enjoying all the other upgrades over the GXL .. And the Crystal Pearl is just soooo creamy! :-)

Hey D4D, thanks for rubbing it in

Jeff, I know the VX and the Kakadu have the same problem. What's another cable?

skip73, I know with the iphone even though it appears your music library/playlist is controlled from your Sat Nav unit, I found if you go back to your apps and select another application that has a music flavor to it. For example I use the Tune-In Radio app, that has the ability to record any radio station world wide then you can to play the recording in your own time and it comes out nicely though your USB without having to run all your music through the Ipod/music app? Does that make sense?

I would like to hear guys your experiences....

I didnt even try it in my truck, the last thing I need is another radio frequency cooking my body parts.

I went and bought a cheap 16gb USB key and loaded it up (about 40%) with 12cds ripped to mp3 and permanently plug it into the usb port...

Streaming produces quite a high level amount of microwave radiation. I have measured them, I found them about 4 times higher than the recommended levels and they were constant. I don't mind not streaming and instead use either 3.5 jack cable or USB cable. Enjoy not having more radio waves right next to your body and organs.

wow, i thought it was standard on all models gxl up?? disapointing

i love the ability to be sitting around the fire and choosing my music from my phone and bluetoothing it back to the car, being able to control the volume and if you have coverage even youtubing music clips, this stops all arguements as to who sang what!!

I was in a dealership this morning and just found out that the altitude doesn't have Bluetooth streaming but the gxl does. Devastated. I made cash offer prior to finding this out. Went home sad and not in a prado.

This looks promising.. Connect this to the USB port in the altitude and it will allow you to stream via Bluetooth. I wonder if the steering wheel next/ prev buttons still work with it.. Anyone with an altitude want to take a punt and see how it goes?

                          Gents,

Has anyone tried plugging in a bluetooth dongle into the USB/AUX port and streaming through that?

                          Something like this

My HTC phone will connect to either bluetooth or wireless to stream music. My work hilux can stream and control my phone's music player via the standard radio through bluetooth connections so Im hoping I using a bluetooth dongle will work.

I tried one and the phone connected to the BT dongle... however the car didn't recognise that there was something connected to the AUX..... So it didn't work

This is disappointing.... I ordered my new Altitude this morning as was told by the salesman that Bluetooth streaming was possible! It is in my 2013 SR5. I don't see it as a deal breaker, but it should bea standard feature.
