  • Aftermarket dvd in 150 VX

I'm waiting for my new vx to arrive and was wondering if anyone knows whether the dvd wiring is present in the headlining when there is no dvd supplied in that model. In other words, is the loom standard? Can I fit an aftermarket unit?

Not sure about the loom, but there is a DVD player in this model...

It's on the dash! The SatNav plays DVD's whilst the car is stationary.

    Cheers,

    Jeff

I can't answer your specific question (Re: the loom setup), but assuming you're talking about a roof mounted player... I bought a VX with the sat nav pack, but also had an after market roof mounted dvd player (axis) installed. The roof dvd player is not connected to the head unit (something I'd like to get done via it's AV2 IN), and so I'd consider it a completely after market dvd player install.

Personally, I find the in-dash DVD player pretty limited (read useless) without it being connected to the roof mounted system. The sound out of the 14 speakers is great, but there are very few circumstances under which we can use it in this configuration. Unfortunately Toyota are unable to tell me if my specific sat nav headunit has an AV OUT (I believe the sat nav ones can be different), so at somepoint, I'm going to have to pay an auto electrics retailer to 'investigate' ;-(... It's a bit of a pain changing dvd's for the 4y.o. while on the road. I beleive the entertainment set-up in the kakadu allows you to play dvd's from the front, view them in the back, and either send the sound throught the speakers or the headphones (in which case you can listen to other media).

      Hope this helps!

I'm more inclined to get headrest screens and a media player that has a DC input. Plug the audio output into the Prado's stereo and have many movies stored on the HDD ready to go.

Correct on the Kaka. It is the shizzle to keep the rugrats quiet.

Thanks for that. I didn't realise that the dash unit would play dvds.
