I did a search on toyodiy and plugged in Europe and RHD and it came up with the same info as Oz. So then I went Japan and lo it is the right one. The diff lock switch is N/A. Downside is that the switch is the same part number, so it must be region specific. I can ask one of my colleagues over there to price up the switch if you are sure you want to go that way??????

The Diff Lock switch is N/A! Brilliant sir, brilliant! I've been looking at the drawings trying to figure out which is which since they all used the same part number.

YES! If you know somebody in Japan that could help please do ask them. I have a friend in the Middle East and one in Thailand going to their local dealers to see if they could learn anything but I know nobody in Japan.

Thanks again. What's annoying is that I drive a truck built in Japan and when looking for right hand drive ones I did not even consider Japan. Duh on me!

Update. Part number means nothing to Japanese parts people. They sent through a picture but it was the same as ours in a high end model. Suggested looking at the base model/manual version. Hopefully better news soon.

Fitted to the 2.7L petrol. Have asked for a price for switch and plug/harness. Will let you know soon.

Don't despair, nothing yet. Seems as though the Japanese don't work like us and tracking down the part and place to buy it is taking time. Also my mate has just been promoted and sent to Egypt for a few weeks. Will get you something as soon as possible.

Hi Guys, I wanted to stop by with a update. Well, nothing firm to report but based on excellent info by mjrandom I ordered part number 8422360030 from amayama.com that many of you have used with what seems pretty good luck. So far the process has been rocky but I'm in communication with Justin there with hopes of it shipping soon. The price including EMS freight to the US is US$ 64.

In the meantime I've talked to both Toyota USA and Japan and they were adamant about not selling directly any part which did not originally come with the vehicle. The most used reason was safety, which while I understand remains frustrating.

If for some reason amayama fails I will again beg Michael for his kind assistance.

When the installer was fitting a larger GPS/DVD unit to my GXL, he needed a larger sized dash panel to accommodate the larger screen size. He quoted the part number of the required panel (from an upmarket model, probably the Kakadu) to Toyota Aust, only to be told that the panel does not exist. A Toyota contact here in Aust. provided him with the part number from the Toyota computer records.

He has a contact in Japan, who arranged for the part to be shipped over here in a few days. The installer was told that Toyota will not sell parts from one model to be fitted to another model, so if you are doing that, don't mention it to Toyota when ordering the parts.
