Pushbutton start / smartkey ....... will engine remain run if no key?

Hi All.

I always concern with this push start button thing on the 150 Prado.
Many a times, when engine was running, and wife in the car, I could actually go off to a shop to pick up something with the key with me. And engine remain running when I came back.

Can someone just drive off this car while the key is not in close proximity?

Yep, you could lose your car and wife in one go there buddy. There is a key symbol that will appear when the car is running waning you that the keys are no longer in the car. The car will operate normally until it is turned off then it will not be able to be started again with out the key in proximity to the vehicle.

Mine is a continual annoying beep and also the car is too. Had to put that in. Also it beeps twice when ever any door is open & closed? Can this be switched off?

The beeper not the wife....I know she can't

Yes, key alarm beep twice when I walk away. That's about all. Engine still running.
The other day I actually tried to lock the door with the key remote (while engine running and someone inside) - it won't lock.

Didnt have the engine running but had the radio going when I left the car with the keys today. Got a triple beep. It wouldnt lock either.

I can lock my car while it's running by removing the little key from the fob and physically locking the drivers door.

The radio/CD etc will turn off after about 1 hour.

If you walk away some distance, a crook can jump in and drive the Prado away. It will no doubt happen to someone in the future, so everyone be warned. You cannot turn off the engine with the remote from outside the vehicle.

I can't really see the problem. You have a choice to turn off the engine, just like you do with a key except it is more convenient. If you don't want the car stolen then turn it off when you walk away. The
