Consumer protection found in my favour. Even though they couldn't categorically state with 100% certainty it was caused by dealership, the "balance of probability indicates it was caused during dealers care".

Workshop foreman admitted to taking the car for a test drive to diagnose wheel bearing noise.... there was obviously no engine knock or it would have been reported.

It wasn't all smooth sailing - 2 months of emotional torture not knowing if I would be covered for up to 15k worth of engine repair costs!

I don't hold any grudges against dealership, I am sure they get all sorts of wackos trying to pull the wool over their eyes - I just wished they realised the cases merit before having to goto consumer protection.

Nevertheless, they picked the car up Monday and motor Tuesday. I should get a call today or tomorrow on exactly what work is to be done. The workshop who stripped it down said as it had spun the main bearings (especially as it got hot enough to turn the main bearing caps blue), it would require a new block.

Once I get it back, it then goes to the dealer I bought it from to sort the control body module corrosion.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel! And I can now resume purchasing more add-ons

Great outcome, but it is real shame that your dealership made you force the issue. 2 months of stress no one needs. I hope they try to make it up to you in some way, you deserve it.

Have to agree with all of the posts before me.

It is great news indeed, to see a dealer step up to the plate.
Especially when we hear of so many that won't.

                    Cheers

That's great news Shodown, glad to hear it all worked out in the end. While it's a shame what they put you through before doing the right thing i'm sure you'll find that they will lift their game and snap to attention if you ever have another issue or complaint for them.
I hope you have no further issues and smooth sailing from here on in mate.

Wow, glad it worked out in the end mate.
My hair was turning grey just from reading this thread, let alone being the man involved in the shambles.
Lets hope your truck makes a full recovery.
In the mean time you need to put your feet up and have a beer or several and give yourself a pat on the back for making it out the other side in one piece and Toyota out of your wallet.
                        Cheers for the thread.

I don't know, they were meant to call today - I will chase them up tomorrow.

He mentioned he was going to replace the crankshaft rather than machine the old one - so hopefully they follow the same principles and replace the block. Depends on how bad it is I guess.

I explained the other workshop's views - they said they would need to inspect first.

I'm surprised I have any hair left!! 2013 has not been my year - since the Prado issue, I have:
                          • bought a faulty Samsung Galaxy Note 8 from DSE they had supposedly re-certified - some old guy bought it back complaining the wifi was dropping out - they replaced the next day but I had to goto Mandurah (1.5 hr round trip for those over east)
                          • bought a faulty Samsung S3 Phone from Crazysales that has taken two weeks to get from WA to VIC!
                          • got an issue with ADSL provider dragging out to 3 weeks now

I did happen to break one of those concave baby headrest mirrors when fitting the LED interior replacement in the Prado - do you think this had anything to do with it?

                          Meh - chin up !!

Don't forget to check the oil before you drive the new motor out of their driveway. I had a worked 351 ZG Fairlane back in the day. Had the whole driveline overhauled from radiator to rear diff. The shops apprentice did the tail shaft and thought he had put in quality Uni joints. He did but one was faulty. Needless to say the rear Uni let go, ripped the bell housing if the rear of the block, sprayed auto fluid over my headers, set the whole thing a light. No more ZG. But insurance coughed up and my $45,000 show car made a come back after rebuild.

any way a good outcome makes for a very watchful eye when picking your pride and joy.
Had a 2006 GXL, liked it so much bought a 2008 GXL. Liked the 150 so I bought a black 2010 GXL. Liked them even more and bought 12/2012 GXL. Must like Prado

OK, so my saga is hopefully coming to its end - it's been 3 months to the day since the Prado went in for its service and never returned !!

It took 2 weeks to get block ex-east. Somehow they forgot to order the bearing & gaskets kits at the same time though - so that delayed it by another few days. Was meant to have it back yesterday but it wasn't ready, told it should be ready today.

If that's the case, I pick it up tonight and drop it off tomorrow to the dealer's workshop for repair to corrosion in Body Control Module and associated wiring looms. They reckon they need it a few days, so fingers crossed I get it back early next week.
