Any way to change this default setting? Every time I turn on A/C it changes to recirculated air.. Frustrating to say the least!

It can be changed by the dealer. I had it done at first service with no cost.

Yep, changed mine too.
If you have a look through the back of your manual it lists a number of settings that can be changed by the dealer or through the computer. Find the ones you want and take the book in to show them when you ask for it to be done.
Good time to also enable the option for opening/closing the windows with the remote!

This would annoy me too... not sure if I am the only one but I find that if the recirculate mode is on for any length of time then it starts affecting my concentration. I remember watching a report that showed how the oxygen levels fell when recirculate was on. With the way modern cars are sealed up, and the Prado is certainly no exception, I cannot see how that oxygen levels can remain normal in such a confined space. I would like to see the button activate recirculate for a finite time then revert to fresh again. Don't know about others but I tend to only use it when I am behind a smelly vehicle so going back to normal 10 minutes or so after activation would be ideal.

However I now worry about having my keys in my pocket and the button being pressed by another key. Happens often and so far has only unlocked doors or locked them, but if button stays pressed can open everything when not meaning to. Normally happens when I am working in garage or garden and bending down.
The aircon coming on with the front demister function is also annoying. I must check if it can be changed. I know it is the quickest way to demist all windows but if you do it this way you have to leave it on. If turned off after demisting the windows it is a quick way to fog them up again. I also notice in winter that lots of cars drive around with heavily misted windows, I suspect this is because they all have their ventilation on recirc and don't know how or why to turn it off. Warmed fresh air will demist windows fairly well even when it is raining.
Cheers
