Just rang Torque Toyota to book the car in.... asked about the Service and the Valve Clearance Check..... They said they actually remove the rocker cover and do an actually physical valve clearance check.... I then asked about removing injectors and replacing the injector seals...... he initially said yes but after me asking him to double check, he came back and said no & that they only do that on the early D4D's that have the copper washers..... Apparently my 2010 year has the later seals and there's no need for them to be replaced...... Overall cost is to be around $900 or so for a leaseplan vehicle.... + any parts I guess to.... maybe.....

Torque Toyota here in North Lakes quoted me $850 for my 80 000km service next month.

          Cheers Jim.
My Prado had it's 4 year service yesterday, which is normally the 80,000km biggie. For a number of reasons, I have not travelled much over the last year and a half, and the odo. reading is only 55,000km.

The service lady I spoke to is probably in her late 30's to 40, but seem to know what she was saying.

She told me that because I was no where near the 80,000 mark, I could have the extended fixed price service (at $249-) and have the 80,000km service nearer that odo. reading, and the 80,000 service is a bit over the $800- mark.

I told her with the extended warranty, services were all the same at $249-, and she said that was not right. I told her that the big bloke (meaning the Big Fat F#cker that sits in the back office) signed me up for the Extended Warranty and Service Program saying that all services for the extended warranty period of another 3 years were at $249-. Her face changed colour and she stopped talking, so I guessed the BFF had given me a bum steer (and he was not at work yesterday) She could probably see the steam coming from my face.

I had the service completed at $249- which consists of changing the engine oil and filter, and a few inspections and checks. As you said Jim, not a lot done. I also had the auto. trans. fluid changed (at my request), as I have towed a van at various times. $200 to change and refill, the ATF was a bit darker in colour, but not too bad.

At my last service, the 3.5 year extended warranty one, my service book was not stamped, so I mentioned that to the service lady. She told me that the service book is stamped in the back section of the book under Additional Service Record. The services are all recorded, but some are in the normal service section, and others are in the additional service section. A bit confusing.

I get my Kaka serviced there too. My last service done at around 52,000kms was $269 including a Safe-T-Stop brake test (which I didn't ask for) and replacing the tail shaft (no charge for that as it was a warranty job). Interestingly it's not listed as a specified km service, just a "Used Car Ext Wty Service". I'm on the dealers extended warranty as I wasn't the original owner so didn't get the factory extension option offered to me (not sure if I should have been offered it).

The one before that was done at around 46,000kms and was listed as the 60,000K service, it cost $210. I don't do the specified Ks quick enough so they go on months. It's a bit annoying as I will be doing the 100,000K service when the car has only done 80,000kms at this rate.

I'm generally happy with the service but did pull them up on not rotating my tyres at the last service despite it being listed on the invoice (I had marked them beforehand). They fixed it up but it makes you wonder what else doesn't get done that is on the service schedule. Mine's a V6 so services don't seem to be as expensive as the diesels from what I have read on various threads.

fibo666 Why did they replace your tail shaft? as I have a driveline clunk that I am told comes
              from the tail shaft.

My Kakadu's tailshaft was replaced as I had the well reported tailshaft clunk. They tried greasing it a couple of times but it persisted so it was replaced under warranty. Have a search here on "tailshaft clunk" and you will see it's not an uncommon problem.

I had my 80,000km service (only 59,000km on the ODO) completed today as per the schedule in the logbook, $906 ouch! All prior services since taking ownership have been less than $270. I asked for the auto trans fluid to be changed when booking it in because we've done a bunch of river crossings and hill climbs recently. They said it couldn't be done because it was a sealed system with no dipstick to check the oil and that they only need to check the transmission for leaks. That threw me because when booking it in over the phone I was told it could be done for around the $160 mark. Your post and others I have found plus speaking to Rod at Wholesale Automatics tell me that the advice I received today is just plain wrong, not happy Jan!

Looking over my invoice today I notice there is a charge for "Man Trans Oil", not just once but twice. That's kinda odd considering I have an auto that supposedly they can't replace the oil in. Unless of course that item is referring to the front and rear diff oil which was listed as being changed? I didn't pick the car up, otherwise I would have queried it.

I recently had My V6 Kakadu due for it's 80000klm service. Berwick Toyota Quoted Me $1100 !!!! I nearly fell off My chair as I have never been quoted anywhere near that for car services & My other two cars are VE HSV's. I ended getting it serviced for $393 & they did everything toyota was going to do, booked with http://www.fixedpricecarservice.com.au/

I had a look at the link Mike and see it's some sort of price comparison site like Shopbot. Cheapest I could find in my area was $468 from a mobile mechanic, most workshops were over $500. That's still a lot cheaper than Mr Toyota but I did notice some items are listed as top up/check rather than replace and that replacement of some items (including some I had done today) was extra cost.

                            Fido,

The service section can change your trans. fluid. There is also a filter in the auto. trans., but they did not change mine. Said it was still o.k. Changing that also costs money.

I had a discussion with one of the service people, that the fluid is not needed to be changed at all as Toyota consider it good enough for the life of the vehicle. I disagreed with him, as those who tow vans or drive in a lot of tough off road conditions exert more strain on the auto trans/gear box, diffs, engine, etc. He said that he could see my point of view, so I guess that some of the 'service' people sitting on the front desk are told certain things at Toyota 'training school'.

My trans. fluid, plus others on P.P. have found the fluid does discolour after time.

Independent auto. trans. specialists, who have been in the game for 20 or 30 years, have told me no matter how good the fluid is claimed to be, it should be changed every 4 or 5 years, as heat is it's biggest killer.

That's the spiel I got too, I was even told they couldn't check it. I'll be calling the Service Manager on Monday and asking for an explanation, you would think the dealership would want the extra dollars.

If anyone could be so good as to scan the 80,000K page out of their service log book for me I'd appreciate it, they tore the page out again despite a specific request not to do so.

Also, did you receive a copy from a service book?
