    1/ 12 mths to maximum 100,000kms
    2/ 24 mths to maximum 100,000kms
    3/ 36 mths to maximum 100,000kms
    4/ 12 mths to maximum 150,000kms
    5/ 24 mths to maximum 150,000kms
    6/ 36 mths to maximum 150,000kms

At first reading your post I thought it might Darwin premium pricing (I lived there for 7 years - miss the place but not the prices) but as above, there is no 50,000km option stated on my policy! Nor was it mentioned when I first rang to investigate extended warranty.

If you plan to keep the year beyond the 3 year factory warranty, I think extra warranty is a good investment. That is what I did for peace of mind. How it used to be, is that you can purchase the extra warranty with the new car. I did not do that, but wish I had. In April this year, I paid $1630 for Toyota factory approved extended warranty insurance (different to what you can get with the new car). This is for a Diesel for an additional 2 years warranty up to 150.000 km max. You need to get that whilst the car is still within its 3 year warranty. I will steer away from any non-Toyota warranty extensions. The Toyota one covers injectors and is transferrable and thus a good selling point when it comes to that. If you lease the car or claim on tax, the premium is deductible. As someone else said, the dealer warranties often require you to service the car at that dealership. The Toyota one just requires scheduled servicing. At the end of the day, it is still an insurance you buy. In my view, $1630 is easily spend on any repair. For the next two years, I know I won't be up for any expensive repairs.

To clear it up its an extra 3 yrs/50,000km taking it to a total of 6yrs/150,000km. Or thats what both the dealer and Extra care on the ph have said. I too though it may have been the Darwin dealer premium but thats the price from both!

I don't think you would ever get a better price from Toyota over the phone.

The way to get the better price, is from the dealer.

The dealer has two varieties of extended warranty available I think - those third party ones (which have local service stipulations and typically only pay for a percentage of what goes wrong and is often used for all sorts of second hand vehicles), and the Toyota ones.

The dealer will make a very good margin on selling both of those policies, including the Toyota one, which is also transferable.

You should easily get if for $1295, if he thinks your are pulling out of the deal.

Tell him you thought that it had a five year 150,000km warranty. That was discussed when you bought it you think. Also that it would tow 3 tonne. You've made a bad mistake. You're worried now about it being a diesel. You didn't know they are cancerous. Your mother is afraid of heights and you had wanted to ferry her around.

I think there is at least 50% margin on the insurance, and for them, its just a form to fill out. Five minutes work for them - tell them without the highest Toyota insurance, you are pulling out of the deal. I bet the sales guy will "do yo a favor".

Your brother in law just bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and its bloody fantastic. It tows 3 tonne and its got radar cruise and it feels like an 86 - you've made a huge mistake.

You want out - sorry - its not your fault they didn't have one for you when you ordered. Your buyers remorse is all their fault. They shouldn't have said 150,000km and then had the gall to charge you more for it.

The only worthwhile thing about a Prado is that it lasts, and without that extended warranty, such a promise is a false one. You've got to have the Toyota full extended warranty, or its fight time. You're a nice guy salesperson, but really, I need that warranty or I am out of here and down at Hyundai which has heated rear seats and TV, so sorry.
