Hi All,
First post - so will give a bit of background the Prado's unknown problem.
Car is a 2010 D4d Gx Prado recently purchased - 140 000km with a majority of outback highway KM's.
Drove the car for roughly 1300km with no problems at all, however had not driven it over 90km/h or for more than 40 minutes at any one time.
On a recent trip on a highway (140km sitting at 110km/h), it was apparent wheel balance and alignment is require. No worries.
Problem #1: However, at about 110km into the 140km drive, a squeaking/whistling started from the front left wheel (?). I can only assume it is brake pad related as it changes to a constant faint whistle/squeak when the brakes are applied, rather than a intermittent on off (potentially with every rotation of the rotor). This noise changes with the speed of the car and is apparent when both in and out of gear, clutch in and clutch out. This problem will now start after 10 km of driving every time now. The car can sit for half an hour and the squeak will be gone, until another 10km is driven. The squeak has now moved to all 4 wheels.
Problem #2: Nearing the end of the trip, a much louder noise started front what I also believe to be coming from the front left wheel region. This noise was a louder and squeak that also was much constant. This noise would disappear when the clutch was depressed (clutch pushed in, and come instantly back when the clutch was disengaged (in gear). This noise only happens after 40km is driven, and potentially only after highway driving (90km/h+). When the car is left to sit for over an hour, the noise disappears until the next highway drive.
Any thoughts or info on what it may be? I can only assume problem #1 is brakes/rotors.
Problem #2 has me more stumped. I have attempted to spray the CV boots with WD40 and also white lithium - as with the U joint. The fact that the noise disappears when the clutch is depressed has me concerned that is related to the drive train.
Any info would be greatly appreciated, just trying to get an idea before it is off to the mechanics.
Regards,
Bushcow.
