Strange combination of warning lights!!

So I recently purchased a 2010 GXL from a Toyota dealer here on the Gold Coast. Overall pretty happy with the purchase and although I found a few minor issues they are fixing those under the warranty.

A few weeks ago I tried to start the vehicle and it just cranked over but would not fire. I stopped cranking and tried again, this time it started but had the following warning lights on...

Low range 4WD
Traction control
Check engine

I took it to a dealer in Victoria (We were away on holidays) and they couldn't find any stored codes so cleared the warning lights and said it was good to go. Then last week it did exactly the same thing! Again they cleared the codes and had a good look over the wiring and sensors associated with those warning lights but couldn't find anything obviously wrong.

Anyone had that combination of warnings lights before and if so what was the problem?

Did you have any problems with the dealer hassling you about the fault ? I had a check engine light come on and the dealer hassled me about releasing the vehicle as they were afraid that Toyota would not pay them as there was no hardware fault .

No dramas from the dealer. The issue hasn't come back for a week now, here's hoping it was just a dirty sensor!

Yes, and the trouble starting too. Was told after getting battery, etc checked that it was the starter motor. Had it replaced under dealer's extended warranty and problem has not come back since. It only started happening after fording some muddy water crossings and tackling a muddy bog hole, I still think it might have just been dirty contacts.

Thanks for the reply. I doubt it's my starter motor though as it cranks over no problem, it just wouldn't fire on these two occasions.

Mine would just go "click" and do nothing but if I tried just holding the button down eventually it would start. The warning lights came on and usually stayed that way for the duration of the drive but sometimes would go out once it started.

You had the same warnings light as I had?? Mine eventually started after a couple of attempts but had the same warning lights on both times.

Pretty much, the engine light, Multi Terrain Select (I have the Kakadu model), and Slip lights were jammed on and the 4LO light was flashing.

I had that exact combination of lights. I got it checked and the only code that showed up was crank angle sensor.
These lights did not come up every time I started it either. After investigation I found there to be some water in the sensor that was messing with it. (I had hit some deep water hard and fast which had supposedly forced water into it).
I let it dry out and no issues at all since.

I think that's the combination of lights I had (it was a while ago). Same problem starting too. Same model as yours. Showed up as Crank Angle sensor. From memory it was just cleared, I donr recall any replacements or anything. Been fine since.

Thanks for the replies. Am hoping it's just a dirty sensor, the issue hasn't reoccurred so far.
