I generally control the descent speed changing between 1st, 2nd and 3rd. (That's in my 08 gxl diesel auto)
Yup - this works for me. Prob not as well as the manual but fine in my 08 D4D Auto.

I have recently tried it on a very muddy downhill for the first time and it works great, maybe because it releases quicker than my foot.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

apparently it operates several times per second so would be surprised if your foot was quicker !
thanks for the feedback, yours is a V6 auto from memory ?

DAC made my daughter cry the first time. I had it on but forgot and it came on briefly during decent and scared the crap out of her.

Good luck when the ABS overheats and it disables half way down a hill

Not a guess. it is a good thing for beginners on short descents but use it to descend a mountain you will boil your brakes and then you will know what it is like to pucker up. Yes it has happened, on a club trip we had a driver believe that salesmen know better than experienced drivers. He then needed two vehicles attached to his vehicle to lower him the rest of the way off the mountain. It is not required anyway, if you are in Low 1 with a little careful brake application you can go almost anywhere.

No experience with the Prado overheating because I don't use DAC but a Disco... Controlled descent soon became brown trouser panic speedy run. Could be a Disco thing but I think it is helpful but not the be all and end all of driving control. I reckon I warped my 120 discs using TC when I should have really had diff locks. Maybe not but my wobbly discs started that weekend.

Having tried my DAC and thought it not worthy i think the only use for my switch will be a spot to fit another future option.
I got SWMBO to use it on the weekend as she is not overly experienced off road she also didnt like it, her reaction was to turn "the bloody thing off" as she put it.
Like Barajak said low gear and controlled breaking seems a much preferred option

Mate I don't know what your problem is. I posted fact, how about you contribute to the forum instead of 'shooting from the hip' with barbs.

Used the DAC once and way too fast. But it does work backing down my mates very steep driveway low range and in neutral. Feet up in the air and car descending under control. Great show off bit but that's all.

I beg to differ. The question was how do you use DAC, I replied don't and offered an alternate and safer method of descending hills.

Why don't you fill us in on your driving experience with DAC, rather than being obnoxious.
