To answer your original question, select low range, usually first or reverse, the system will activate after the button is pressed and both feet are off the pedals. pressing either the accelerator or brake will disable the system. any speed over the pre set amount will activate the braking circuit via the accumulator canister in the braking system. over use will cause the system to overheat and the ecu will disable the function until temperature is low.

BUT the system is not adjustable in the 120 series and speed can be much better controlled by careful selection of gear and brake application. We have been towing out 1000 kg camper up and down some hairy stuff and would not use the DAC.

So learn how to use your gearbox / brakes and have a fun safe time offroad.

To make the DAC system useful , you should only use it in extreme circumstances, like when your really stuck and there's no one around to help . In this case you should rip it out of the console and put it on the fire , so that the plastic will send black smoke into the air , which someone might investigate . This way it could possibly be useful . If you find the DAC button useful, then you should probably get some driving lessons . Seriously the biggest waste of time , space and money on any vehicle . Sorry there may be other vehicles out there that it actually benefits , but like the Toyota limited slip diff , its useless .
03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

I don't have DAC and never used it so cant comment on that, but agree with Rusty that with the correct training and technique you can, even towing, safely negotiate your way down some gnarly steep stuff. The day before this picture was taken I towed my trailer down the same hill

Personal preference. I just find it too fast. Not wrong, not incestuous just too fast.

If the hill you are descending is so steep that low range 1st gear can't safely control the vehicle's speed, then you have probably driven off a cliff and downhill assist will be less than useless.

Perhaps, one of those parachute thingies they attach to the back of drag racers would be a better option. (cheaper to fix when it malfunctions too)
