  • Plastic trim around gearshift rattle/squak

It started a couple of days ago and it seems that the rattle/squeak is here to stay!
    Anyone with the same issue?
If you had the same problem, how did you fix it? (If you ever did it)

Hi, exactly wich plastic part? The inner grey/silver one or the outer black/wood trim? Mine has a squeak on the two cupholders part, took the center console apart ant put electric tape inside this part to make it tight and stop rattle, did the same for the stereo because the trim around squeak too. Almost two years without rattles. Surprised me how hyundai put a lot of felt like tape around plastic parts but toyota didnt.

I have something very similar. It's more of a "creaking" noise. Drives me up the wall! I find that if I put pressure on the outer black/wood trim around the gear lever it stops. Obviously that isn't a solution, but for me at least confirmed what was causing the noise.

Also, it seems to only happens sometimes. It could be an expansion/contraction issue which is temperature dependant?

I didnt know how to describe it but mine is also a creaking noise. I didnt say creaking because i thought aussies might not call it that way.
The creaking noises in my case seems to be coming from the trim around the shifter area. The chrome trim that holds the leather and surrounds the shifter, the gray plastic area that surrounds the chrome trim or the whole black plastic area that is under the gray trim.
If i push any of these areas they creak like crazy, specially the last one but im not sure which part is actually making the noises.

            1. Chrome trim
            2. Gray plastic surround
            3. Plastic under shifter

Im sorry for the weird image file names. Hahahahaha

I was thinking about spraying heck out of it with some plastic and electric safe lube on all those areas to see if the creaking noises go away. Havent tried it yet since i cant find that lube in my area locally.

Sometimes, creaking is attributed to dirt build up. So if you can try and disassemble the trim from the centre console. Try spraying with silicon grease or maybe some carbon powder.
