  • Prado doesn't automatically lock doors?

    Hi all,

I seem to recall with all my previous cars that if you forget to lock the door, the doors would lock automatically within a set period of time.

However, my prado doesn't do this, if I forget to actually press the locking button, it stays unlocked (for the whole night)!

Is this common to all prados that they don't have this function?

Or should I be turning it on somewhere?

    Thanks!

    gday ebwly,

the only time it will automatically lock is if you unlock the car and then don't open a door, then within a certain timeframe (unsure of time sorry) it will lock, hope this helps, safe travels

Wow. Thanks. That seems like such an oversight. My 2001 Honda had that feature, and it would seem to be one that would accompany the smart key on the Prado.

Even at the very least as a security feature, once you leave the car, (assuming that the car already knows if the key is not inside), it would lock automatically after say 5-10 minutes.

      Good to know!

the smart key on the prado mustn't be that "smart"

Or perhaps it is configured to be useful as an outdoor vehicle rather than a city/suburban vehicle.

It would be a right pain if it locked itself when the doors were shut for a few minutes and the key holder has just headed off while the rest of the family is in the tent and just want to get something out of the car, but the doors just locked themselves.

That wouldn't be 'smart', would it?

Check your manual if it's an option. There's a list of options in the manual that can be changed at the dealer or through the Techstream software if you have that. I seem to recall that this option is there, when playing with Techstream, but I could be wrong, I'd have to check. If you have a VX or Kakadu then some options can be changed through the dash, the rest through a dealer or via Techstream(search eBay).

Edit: now that I think about it, then no, I don't think that's an option. Like others said auto relock only happens if you have not opened any door since unlocking the car.

              x 2.

Too dangerous with kids and animals still inside the vehicle. In today's electronic world, people don't use their brains as much, just let machines and gadgets do the work for them.

100% agree can't think of anything worse. How does the car know you just forgot to unlock as opposed to those that don't want it locked for various reasons. Easy fix don't forget to lock it yourself.
