Re: Not happy with rear seats in New 150

I pretty much agree with Brains and everyone has different needs.

But what is with that lag on the accelerator? You put your foot down and nothing happens and then it's like it decelerates and then suddenly bolts forward.
All with the inertial effects of you head and respective whiplash.

All in all it's a great bit of gear.

Re: Not happy with rear seats in New 150

      Folks

We bought ours with the intention of removing the seats, we wanted the extras on the GXL over the GX so decision made on model, Best Off Road are working on a rear draw kit with the seats removed and that will suit us, as like most people on this forum that use their Prados (90,120's) for traveling usually have the rear seats permantly removed and some form of drawer system installed.

As for diesel vs petrol we have the petrol and there aren't any issues with power or driveability. For the k's we do we would take a mountain of time to "break even" on the diesel.
Like anything new there will be resistance to change.

      Regards, Richo.

Welcome to PP Vern, Make sure you let us WA PPers know when you are in town and maybe we can jack up a run or a BBQ. Any chance of pics of your fridge slide mod? I have a friend who is planning something along the same lines.

          Cheers Neil

Re: Not happy with rear seats in New 150

As others have said some dont like the new shape of a car they drive because effectively it makes the 120's old models...Nothing wrong with the 120's etc but the 150 has all the latest offerings Toyota have some are appealing some don't like the changes...I have previously owned Jeeps etc and the 150 is the first prado I could sit in drive and feel enough to own (another win for Toyota a new owner) . Yes the tank is 30l smaller (its twice the size of any tank I've ever owned) and its funny how people "don't like the shape" yet 90% of the general public cant tell a 120 and 150 apart...my wife still see's 120's and says look new Prado... I cannot fault anything so far on my Kakadu its the best car I have ever owned bar none. I drove and loved my old VY SS and swore I would never buy the the VE its ugly Holden have taken a step backwards yaddy yaddy yarr two years later I bought a VE R8 and its a leap above the VY and I love it , it's simply alot better.
All the 120 owners over the years will at some stage upgrade to a 150 as their cars age and deteriorate when the masses own 150's they will be the ducks nUts...Human nature I guess.
2010 Kakadu with all the usual stuff.... Build up thread below

Re: Not happy with rear seats in New 150

the loss of 30 ltr of fuel is a big issue for some, but with the better fuel economy wouldn`t the range more or less be the same?
I reckon the 120 was the ugliest thing on the road when I first saw it and I still haven`t got used to the front end look of the 150. Its a good reason for fitting a bullbar.
I still quiet a fan of the 90 series. . It just needed a gruntier motor.

Is it just me or is the 120 quieter to cruise in than the 150?

I have spend a fair bit of time in mates 90 series and been driving it occasionally from new, bog standard with a/t tyres on both the 150 handles a shit load better than the 90 series did. The 90 now has Kings and Koni and I still reckon the 150 handles better.

Ultimately the new 150 has 30mm wider track, is stronger body and safer. Has more equipment, is bigger inside, bigger brakes, more airbags.

cars will improve from one generation to the next, but not necessarily the thing everyone wants or needs, its all about compromise. Toyota do get it pretty right, mostly.

More importantly it takes a bit of time, effort and money to set the car up for your needs, I reckon its too hard and I am too lazy to change over a 4wd every couple of years. To be honest it doesn`t matter what you drive just use it and enjoy it.

I would love to take out the third row, but occasionally we take one of the grandmothers with us. The third row disappearing into the floor is not too bad a design and at least they are rated to take adults.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

I am a 150 GXL Diesel owner and can say that there are pros and cons in all cars. Where some of you complain about the rear seats in the 150, the 120 seats took up a lot of room on the sides of the windows which reduced the carrying capacity of the cargo area for some people. I bought the Prado for the passenger capacity and the neatness of how the seats fold down into the floor while maintaining a larger fuel capacity than any other consumer 4wd is something that Toyota has to be appreciated for. I don't need 7 seats all the time but will use it regularly when at a destination. In regard to fuel capacity I have come from a V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee (5 seats)capable of about 500 - 600 klms on the highway from 78 litres. I can now travel in excess of 1600klms from 150 litres, those people that are complaining about the 30L loss - Do the math or carry a jerry can or 2!!! Unfortunately for some, Toyota has delivered a vehicle to meet the needs of a large cross section of consumers that have different needs and requirements. Fortunately for others we will purchase our new 150 Prado's enjoying the upgrades and the changes and over time we will modify our vehicles to suit our specific needs and requirements as companies develop and manufacture accesories for the 150 series Prado. This may include rear seat mods for staorage, suspension, larger fuel tanks and the like.

So for all of you out there in a 120 or 90 appreciate the vehicles you drive and respect Toyota for the vehicle they have produced in the 150, your views and opinions will no doubt be altered over time with new accessories and updated models. For all of you out there with 150's lets pave the way and show all these negative posters what the 150 can be.
i also have come from a jeep v8 grand cherokee which served me well took us up to the cape along parts of the old telegraph track no modifications except for a home made rear carrier to hold 3 jerry cans and an extra spare wheel. My new prado kakadu 2010 is great fuel economy is in the 9's . planning to go up the Tanami and over to brome in july not sure what we need to do to prepare the kakadu but a good roof rack to carry the Oz tent and an extra spare wheel is on the list any suggestions welcomed as to suppliers in melb. also like to get the back fitted with a slide and drawers that can all be removed when not in use any Ideas if this is possible ? cheers paul

I started this thread over 12 months ago. Well there's nothing like a bit of procrastination but I have finally just taken delivery of my new Prado. I ended up going with the GX. See my reasons for doing so in My Rig Build Up.
