  • Can you answer questions the Sales guy can't?

I have a list of questions on the 150 that I can't find a sales person in Brisbane who can answer. So are you smarter than the average Toyota sales person?

I hate hard spare wheel covers - I like to see tyre condition and be able check pressure easily and quickly. Plus I mount a spade and axe off the rear wheel. On the 150 if you remove the cover, what happens to the reverse camera, and would it stop you using a wheel mounted spade holder? (They were not willing to remove the cover to show me!)
Has anyone worked out if you can install aftermarket in dash sat nav on GLX or VX?
Has anyone installed a factory cargo barrier? If so, how are they fixed to the vehicle and what length is left in the cargo bay? Scifleet, one of Brisbane' largest Toyota dealer networks say they are yet to delvier a 150 with cargo barrier.
Where are the side camera's on the Kakadu?
On the Kakadu, is it true that for the entertainment unit the DVD load is under passenger front seat? And is it true that it is shared unit with DVD navigation, meaning you can't have both running at same time? The sales person could not get the DVD unit to pop down from the roof and then whisked my away so someone could drive the Kakadu. I told them surely this can't be true.
Where is the inverter for the 220V AC rear plug?
Where would you place CD's in a Kakadu? (The 120 Grande has a little CD sized shelf at top of glovebox - the Kakadu nothing)
What is the mechanism for the rear diff lock in the Kakadu? Air activated (presumably by compressor that does rear suspension) or electric activated?

They are located under the side view mirrors search the forum or check the toyota website.

Check the toyota website about the dvd system there is a good presentation with Andrew Ettingshausen (ET) about the system.

Hope this helps you JSloosehead.

        Hi JSloosehead,

As a Kakadu owner hopefully this helps you:

        1. At front on the grill, near the Toyota badge I think. 1 on each side view mirror. 1 in the rear where the spare wheel/tyre is. Removing the spare wheel cover does not affect the camera.
        2. Not that I'm aware of. If I have understood your question right, you load DVD's at the front underneath the sat nav, where the main audio head unit is (volume control, eject/load button, etc). It's a 6-disc loader.
        3. The screen/touch display is shared with the DVD/Sat Nav. Yes and no. At the front you can only have either Satnav or DVD playing, but in the rear, you can have the DVD playing the whole time - while you use Sat Nav and or play music with your aux device (ipod, mp3 player, etc). This is an awesome feature for those like me with kiddies.
        4. Once you're familiar with the touch screen menu options, it's easy to do. Also note there's a safety feature with playing dvd movies on the front screen when the hand break is released (i.e. it only plays movies at the front sat nav screen when the hand brake is engaged. But DVD's can play on the rear entertainment screen at any time).
        5. There is a thread in this forum where the inverter is showed near the actual plug behind the plastic covering.
        6. Ther'es no real dedicate CD storage place in the Kakadu, apart from the obvious (glove box, centre console, side door pockets, rear seat pockets).
        7. Rear diff lock is activated by an electronic switch at the front, underneath the stereo controls. In between the the LSD lock and hill ascent control(in the kakadu).

Re: Can you answer questions the Sales guy can't?

          Thanks Mojotec and others.

I returned to the yard on the weekend and found the demo model I was looking at was fitted with the road/cruising pack and hence no side cameras.

Still can't determine whether a centre mounted shovel and axe holder fitted to rear wheel will foul the camera placement.

Thanks Mojotec on the location of the diff lock button, but my question was really about how the diff lock worked. I still can't find out what the rear difflock locking mechanism is (ie what makes the locking pin move to lock the axles at same rotation as crown wheel). I am assuming it is electric activated rather than air activated (like an ARB air locker).

Thanks on the Mr DVD tip 2paint. I should have thought of them as they supplied the ipod connection for my 120 series.

Re: Can you answer questions the Sales guy can't?

Ah sorry for the mix up. I would say it's electronically activated, I don't see any air compressor of sorts to activate the rear diff lock like the ARB lockers. Plus i've tested it out, and after the push of the rear diff lock button - you don't hear any difference or notice any change really...unless you're stuck in terrain and it gets you out!
