  • Bluetooth using Telstra ZTE Model T2 Mobile Phone

Has anyone paired their Telstra ZTE Model phone with the bluetooth function? Toyota have replaced the unit in our VX (they originally said that the unit was faulty) but it still fails to pair with this mobile phone.

I vaguely remember people suggesting a firmware update on their phone to overcome similar issues (not the easiest task if you're not computer savvy). Have you got another brand of phone to try and pair with the unit ?

I have a T7 and it pairs with the bluetooth in our SX and works very well as a hands free and the steering wheel volume and answer and hangup buttons work correctly.

None of the fancy stuff including phone book and voice dialling work at all.

The transmitted audio is a little high but this is the same on all T7s with all Bluetooth headsets and hands free I have tried so I think it is a problem with the phone.

When we first picked up the VX in January the dealer tried to pair my phone but it wouldn't work and they said that the phone was outdated. I then bought this new phone on a 24 month plan, (I took the Toyota brochure into Telstra Shop with me so they could see specifications etc.) and then the Dealer said that the unit was faulty and that Toyota was having a lot of problems with them. They replaced the unit yesterday and then found that the phone didn't pair. We have a Samsung phone and that works fine.
The driver's leather seat has started to come adrift where it is stitched and this is going to be replaced next week. We have just over 3,500 kms on the clock so far so hopefully we won't have to have anything else repaired/replaced.

OK, have just been through this, and the issue is actually quite complex. Toyota requires that your phone supports Bluetooth 1.1 or later, with HFP V1.5 or later and OPP v1.0 or later if you have the Kakadu. For the average Joe Bloggs, this means zip without much research.

My Nokia 6120 would pair initially and then subsequently drop out immediately after connecting. This was an annoyance as I had two of these phones, 1 for me and 1 for work. I switched my work phone over to a Nokia 2730 and that works just fine with the handsfree with limited other functions, but the phone is light on for the important functions I need for work (calendar especially) and I lashed out on an Xperia X10 from Sony Ericsson and that also works with full functionality.

I have tested several phones now and based on my observations, it would appear that Toyota have applied the Bluetooth standard to the letter, while several of the phone companies have interpreted it instead. Sony Ericsson were pioneers in Bluetooth, and to date every (all 5) Sony E phone tried works perfectly, whereas I have tried a couple of other Nokia's that gave the same result as the 6120 (even after a firmware upgrade) although there could also be an issue with particular carriers and their config of the firmware, as there are reports of Telstra 6120's working fine, but mine were Optus & Three.

The phone shops are bloody useless, and for the most part will not offer a refund or exchange if it doesn't work. I got lucky and collared a bloke who had just bought one of the X10's and tried it. FWIW, the iPhone also work fine.

My advice is to find someone with a Sony E phone and try that, this will ensure that the unit is working, then try phones that you like until you find one that works that you are happy with. Its a right pain in the arse to have to do this, as all the phones I have tried work fine with the Garmin GPS I have, which supports my theory of application versus interpretation.

There are other comments on this in my other post http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=8749

          Hope this helps
