  • Where do you attach Recovery Hooks on a 150?

    Greetings All,

I'm hoping someone else has had this problem and can solve it for me. Where do you install the Recovery Hooks at the front on the new Prado 150 Series?

I have installed an ARB Deluxe Winch Bar (Not the winch though) and even my ARB mob aren't so sure. Jason's doing a bit more research for me.

The Toyota Owner's Manual on page 511 calls the 2 front hooks as Emergency Towing hooks. Is that the same thing? These are welded on not attached with a high tensile bolt.

To do the Toyota Landcruiser Club's practical course, I have to have a Recovery Point attached with a high tensile bolt but my own mechanic has done a ring around and couldn't get a clear answer from anyone, hence I'm asking you guys.

The course is this weekend but it looks like I'll have to cancel.

    Would appreciate any help.

    many thanks
    Dulcie

    See discussion here

Also some discussion on this going on in the "Minimum Vehicle Preparation Requirements" thread for the GTG.

The issue must come up before with TLC ( plenty of 150 owners out there who want to do training ). I suggest you give their training unit a call.
    Cheers, Wayne

PradoV6GXL mentioned in there he has spoken to two different manufacturers/fabiractors and they are planning on having Aftermarket recovery points available for the 150, available in the coming "months". Watch this space, your not alone, there is a lot of 150 Prado Owners waiting on recovery hooks to be released for the one 150 (me included).

        Thanks Guys

I feel a lot more reassured.

I don't pretend to know anything regarding the mysteries of 4WD'ing but I want to learn, and do the training, and of course they require a list of everything to be ticked off and attached before you can attend.

I got the ARB rear hook which you put into your tow bar so the back ends accounted for.

Thanks Chris for the other thread.

I'll keep an eye out for news on the release.

        many thanks

Just to add a comment, I have just had the ARB bar fitted and made enquires about the recovery points. I was told by the fitters at ARB that it was a waste of money as the ones fitted on the car are more than substantial. :?: :?:
I'm not sure of their level of expertise and will be looking for aftermarket ones like every one else.

Spoke to the guy at all terrain in melb last night, looks like it will be even harder to get recovery points when a arb bar is fitted. His only suggestion was to rely on being towed out via the tow points, no snatching.... and use a winch where possible

I am new to 4WD modifications, but the guy at UV4X4 at Enoggera in Brisbane showed me a pair of plates that looked like they bolted onto the front of the vehicle near the tie-down shackles. Although they were not hooks he said they were recovery points, and a 'D' bolt would have fitted. They were labelled for a Hilux, but had '150' in brackets after the word 'Hilux' on the packet. He indicated they were also suitable for a Prado 150. Cost about $135. I could not see if they had any rating on them.
I don't know if this helps or is a dead end also. I would certainly like to have recovery points on my vehicle so I can use snatch straps with some level of confidence.

Where they red with 2 bolt holes and a larger hole for the D-Shackle? If so they are made by Outback Ideas and are for the Prado 120 and they also say suit the 150. I bought a pair, looked at the fitting side of it (the radiator needs to be moved during the fitting process) and then looked at the factory points and decided that I will stick with the 2 factory points with an equaliser strap. Plus with the OE Bumper still installed the outback ideas points sit up a little high and the front bumper could be damaged during recovery.
