Spare wheel

After my Birdsville trip, I decided to remove the spare wheel assembly to clean out the build up of stones.
What a great spot for collecting rubbish.
Leaves mix with dirt and stones and it all gets jammed between the plastic back section of the tyre cover and the door.
Not good for the paint.

Might try and pull mine off sometime soon then and see what it's like - have not taken the cover off since I got the car, and the spare is a different brand to all the rest so I am guessing it's been on there a long long time!

If she's ever been on dirt you'll soon find out.
They plug for reversing camera is a bit of a trick, I gave up but if you undo it the whole bracket can be removed and properly cleaned.
My plug was full of dust, no idea what bit gets pushed in to unclip it.

Luckily mine is a 95 so no reversing camera to worry about there but I have added one on the bottom bumper. Good opportunity to inspect and pump up the spare too.

If you need to remove the reversing camera it's not difficult to remove the wiring plug. It's a 2 piece plug with one part sliding over the other. The outside piece will have a pair of "handles", just prise these up with a small screwdriver, pull on the 2 pieces & the plug will come apart. There are some small lugs that the "handles" clip over to keep the plugs from coming apart. Just push the plugs back together when re-assembling & the clips will go back into place.

Thanks Geo, eyesight is poor and as it was full of fine dust, I couldn't work it out.
Hard to get an old head in that space too.
So I just worked around it, cleaned her up, even cut/polished some of the stubborn marks away.
All ready for the next dusty trip.
