Gday I have a 2018 GXL purchased new steered beautifully for 40,000km took to local Toyota dealer for 40km service (same dealer services every 10k) when I picked it up drove it about 2km down the road steering didn’t seem the same took it straight back to the dealer and said there is something wrong with the steering they took for a drive and said there is nothing wrong with it have taken it back 7 times since complaining about the steering issue has 80 k on it now.
The steering seems hard and it won’t return to centre.
If you go around a left hand turn then the road straightens up let go of the steering wheel it just continues to go left same if you go around a right hand bend it will continue to pull right towards oncoming traffic.
Toyota dealer kept blaming tyres and wheel alignment got 4 brand new grand trek tyres exactly the same as original ones and wheel alignment just to prove that wasn’t the issue took straight to Toyota dealer showed them what it was doing the workshop head technician and the workshop manager both drove it and said there was nothing wrong with it that’s how they all are.
Took it to a front end specialist he drove it and said the steering is hard could be a uni on the steering shaft.
He removed steering shaft from the rack and inspected the unis all good he then dropped both tie rods ends off and checked
all good smooth operation as soon as he connected back to steering rack it was hard again said there is an issue with the steering rack.
He done a wheel alignment on it at the same time and gave it as much positive caster as possible said that might help with the returning to centre issue
Drove it home didn’t notice any real improvements with it.
So yea great car just steers like a pig has anyone else had a similar issue that they have managed to resolve
