Problem with traction/stability control

Hi to all.

My 2016 2.8 TD manual Prado has a problem with it's traction/stability control.

When the system is turned on as normal & I am driving on winding roads there is an intermittent loss of power for a second on corners taken at mild speed.

However when the system is turned off (holding the button for 3 sec. to turn off both systems as just turning off the traction control is not enough as it switches back on at about 60 Kmh.)

there is no problem with missing or loss of power.

Does anyone have any ideas how this could be corrected. Is there a sensor somewhere to check or is it part of the ECU.

I don't always get the time to check the forum so please excuse delayed replies.

Is your Prado raised? If so some have had to have the Yaw sensor recalibrated as Traction Control would kick in on turns without any loss of traction.

You should be seeing an indication on the dash if it TC is kicking in.

Hi Lee.

Yes, I did forget to mention it is lifted but the problem was evident before it was lifted & the speed & any sideways force when cornering is minimal.

If I was cornering at higher speeds with more sidewise forces I might expect something but not at 60 Kmh or less & only sweeping corners.

Hi Lee, Did you have yours recalibrated by Toyota & what did they charge ??

I haven't noticed if the traction control light is coming on, I will try & look out for it.

Hi Russell,
Toyota did it at no extra charge at my next service. As you said not seeing the TC light coming on would indicate not the issue though.

Whats tyres you got fitted? there is a bulletin about this probelm with high tyre pressures and loss of traction (you cant feel it) it shows up in the RoB data

I'm running Toyo AT 2's at 38 - 40 lbs. I usually have about 60 - 80 Kg of tools in the back as well.

I notice the problem mostly in suburban areas with speeds at 60 km or less & driving conservatively through the corners.

I don't have a scan gauge. Is that where I could see the RoB data you mention.

Would I search " High tyre pressure with loss of traction " in the forums to read about the problem ???

I forgot to mention I have gone up a profile size with my tyres from 265/65 to 265/70. though I don't expect this would change the stability / traction control issues.

Hi Jackrustle, not sure you can get RoB data with a generic scan gauge, i will find the bulliten next week and let you know the symptoms,
