  • new buyer: late model 120 vs new 150

    Hi all

Im about to buy my first Prado and cant make my mind up between a low k 08/09 120 model or a new 150. Ive read the reviews and driven both. They say the 150 is underpowered because of the extra weight but it drives well ( maybe better than the 120). However the 120 is proven and looks better plus, has the extra seat. Be interested to hear from people who have owned a 120 and now drive a 150. thanks v much

    Gday Patbren
I to had a similar dilemma. I had the GXL D4D 120, which I thought was a fantastic car, probably the best I had ever had. So was very reluctant to upgrade to the 150 GXL.
I procrastinated for a few months, then decided to trade in on the 150.
This was a few months ago, and I have to say that now I feel the 150 is every bit as good as the 120, and the more I'm in it the better I like it.
I have been to the centre and back, on a few pretty rugged roads/tracks, but it has been fantastic.
I do not regret for one moment going to the 150.
I would also think that in the long term, the 150 ( and I assume you are going for the GX ) will offer better resale.
    I hope this helps.
    cheers

        Hello Patbren
This was one of the concerns I had before the purchase, but I can honestly say that I have not noticed a difference.
I also not a lead foot, and drive conservatively, but when I have had to push, I have not noticed the supposedly under powered condition.
        cheers

At the current inflated prices of the 08/09 120, I would buy a new 150. However, I'm sticking to the 120 when I next 'upgrade' in a few years time due to being able to transfer some of my accessories plus I do need that 8th seat. Also check What would you ask Toyota to change for 2011 release of 150?.

I'll be waiting for this V6 diesel.
and to see if they bring out a GXL without third row seats.
and time to iron out some of the issues in the current 150 as reported on this forum.

the 120 has been around for a while and pretty much all the issues ironed out or can be sorted aftermarket.
still some unknown factors with the 150.

however if i had to buy now I'd probably still go a 150 over a second hand 120 - unless the 120 was a really good deal.
            Cheers, Wayne
