However, if you are not comfortable with that - it is fine. I still can't get over the anxt and horror at the suggestion of towing what is just a damn trailer with a perfectly adequate vehicle ( it is not a nissan micra). I think we have gone PC mad. Just my 2 bobs worth. Cheers, Derb.
Different country and different laws. You can not legally tow anything over 750kgs here in Australia with out assisted brakes on the trailer. What you are suggesting brakes laws and is not in the spirt of this forum. End of story.
Well said Nick! And just to backup the side AGAINST, without the correct safety systems and following the laws that have been put into place, voiding insurance company policy for the sake of 20km and a family favour in your $65,000 car. Is it really worth it? Get a tilt tray as suggested, or another (suitably equiped) vehicle, or hire a brake controller that suits connection to a vehicle temporarily.

Wouldn't towing the Jayco without the brake controller actually be more dangerous within city limits due to the increased traffic on the road (and dare i say it - more "idiots"!)... Not to mention stopping distanced, reduced ability to maneuver around obsticles, why would you ever suggest that this was a good idea!!!

      .

Support your stance - additionally surely the KIWI Prado manual has the same warranty requirements as the OZ version? :?:

Re: Towing a 2250Kg Camper without a brake controller

NZ towing regulations are different to 'OZ', with trailer brakes not being necessary unless the total weight exceeds 2,000kg. But the most important regulation here (unfortunately not widely understood), is that you must be able to completely stop from 30km/h on a dry road within seven meters ! This is the standard to which I adjust my electronic brake controller, .....as to the Toyota warranty situation here if you tow more than 750Kgs without trailer brakes, I think it is more related to the towbar rating (2500kg), ball weight, and whether the rig complies with the regulations.

You should try the stop from 30Km in 7 metres, and then make your call,......doubt you could do it !

Re: Towing a 2250Kg Camper without a brake controller

I'm a Jayco camper trailer owner and know them well. No Jayco camper weighs that much, the heaviest model weighs 1259kgs. Unless he has some serious modifications and accessories or its a caravan I would recheck the weight.

The law in Australia clearly states the rules of towing and the requirements for brakes weather they be over ride brakes,or an electronic controller for loads over 750 kg , why are we suggesting as some people are it is acceptable to tow without meeting the relevant regulations :?: :?:

Only one person suggested that and was pretty well flamed for it
BTW have you watched the NZ "Motorway Patrol" show on telly ?

( this is said in jest, I am a Kiwi myself )

                  Hire one of these:-

Most places that hire Jayco's should have one.
