Bruce, What size nutserts and where did you put them? This is a great idea, I was going to open up some angle iron and bolt that to the existing weld nuts and the bolt through these but a few nutserts or rivnuts will do the trick!
So far I have bought a 1200 x 1200 sheet of 15mm structural ply, 1.5m of boat carpet, a small sheet of 9mm mdf to make the in fills and the back and 500 mL of contact adhesive. I need lots more adhesive as the carpet sucks it up big time.
I also had our workshop make me a steel battery box to get some more interior space and it looks the part. I will fit that with rivnuts to hold the charger and fuse block.

EDIT: Thinking about it has anyone who has installed drawers actually moved the sensor from the middle of the floor? I wonder whether it would make any difference.
I have the drawer system from the Cairns company (cannot remember the name at present) The sensor was not moved and the rear door lock works just the same.

Sorry about late reply, on road to Tasmania for 7 weeks.
Nutserts were M8 size and were placed in the metal rib/ridge that goes across the vehicle. It is where the existing floor carpet finishes roughly. I hope that makes sense. I used spray adhesive and find it works better.
Cheers

No worries, did the same yesterday. I love my rivnut system, the battery / charger box is full of them! Hopefully finish the floor trims today. Box is complete and ready to bolt in. Have to get some screws to hold the floor in; M10 x 1.25 65 long and M8 x 1.25 50 long countersunk Allen head screws. I think I will just bolt through the carpet rather than try and hide them under a flap of carpet.

I have read that if you remove the third row seats from the vehicle than you need to certify the car as a five seater and get a new compliance plate. Has anyone heard this? Is there any truth to it?
I just knicked the following text from a different forum, but it states what I have been lead to believe on more than one occasion
"Leave the seatbelts in.......not sure what State your from, but I made enquiries after being asked when lecturing for 4wd groups in SA and found that it is okay to remove the 3rd and 2nd row seats as long as you leave the seatbelts attached. I know it doesn't really make sense as there are no seats......
The law states that the removal of seats AND seatbelts is an indication that the removal is permanent. The permanent removal is illegal and the vehicle would need to be re-registered as a CMV and not a passenger vehicle (as all 4wd wagons currently are) to become legal again.
Also, the removal of seats for fee or reward (ie: an electrician removing seats and using the 4wd as a work vehicle to make money) is against the law - in SA anyway. I'm fairly sure that this is Australia wide and the National Code of Practice for Light Vehicles does not cover this as it has not (and probably will not ever) be agreed to Australia wide."
So it's down to the seatbelt points, not the seats
Hope this helps
John

Not quite Jasen. In Q if you take the seats out and don't plan to reinstall them you should get an engineer's certificate (real engineer not a plastic one). If you have no firm notion to refit the seats same applies. Even with the system I have I can reinstall the seats in about an hour but I lose the fridge and battery. So I put my seats back in regularly. Just read my diary entries!
Not sure what the other states dictate but best check. There was also a comment a few years ago about one of the states having a hissy fit if you have a cargo barrier but the rear seat belts are still installed. No idea if that is correct or not.

You're not allowed passengers behind a cargo barrier, but to still have the seatbelt mounts? Sounds like the nanny state to me

my understanding is removing the seats doesnt mean you need to do the change, but removing the seatbelts does. just because a vehicle is allowed to have up to a number of occupants if the seatbelts and proper seats aren't there, then they are not legally seated, no engineer needs to tell a copper that...
--edit--
should note that that comes from my experience of having my patrol engineered, and asking the engineer about the rear seats then.
