  • Milford Cargo Barrier

Today I fitted the Milford cargo barrier.

    NOT HAPPY !

The barrier is very difficulty to fit and I pity some home DIY guys, the brackets are the wrong shape, the instructions and method are poor. The mounting points need more thought.

My main complaint is that the barrier is too tall and touches the ceiling, I tired every thing to get clearance but no luck, even with the weight of the fridge on the back seats it is still pressing firmly against the ceiling. I will call Milford tomorrow and ask them to send me a new one 15 or 20mm shorter.

I will also tell them to try fit a few before marketing them.

    Derek,

Although I don't have a 150, your posts are informative and well illustrated, I suspect that they will help a few 150 owners build up their rigs.

    Keep up the good work.

Sounds like you've been given a 120 series cargo barrier... made for the taller roofline.

No, the box, instructions and brackets all match with the pictures and parts in the kit. It also had all the legs etc to move it to the 2nd row. (Not going to happen).

I will find out what they have done. Perhaps the jigs were set wrong.

Nothings changed since the 120 barrier then.

I regards to your problem; It's a little hard to tell from the pictures you supplied, but can the brackets behind the grab handles be turned over :?: if so it may tilt the top of the barrier back a little and give you a little clearance to the roof lining.

No it is designed to sit on top of the 3rd row.

The problem is the height of the barrier, it sits on top of the 3rd row of seats. These push the barrier into the ceiling. The barrier must be made shorter, the only other option is to fit turnbuckles to the floor and force the seats and barrier downwards. (This may be an option to level the floor area).

 UPDATE: 23RD DEC 2009 - Spoke to Milford and they admit the barrier was designed using the high end model with electric seats. They will remeasure a GXL and get back to me in the new year.

 UPDATE: 7TH JAN 2010 - Milford called and confirmed they will obtain a GXL with manual seats and remeasure / fit. They will get back to me ASAP.

 UPDATE: 14TH JAN 2010 - Milford said the barrier is correct and will send new brackets to fix the problem.

 UPDATE: 15TH JAN 2010 - Brackets are the same as the kit - haha.

 UPDATE: 27TH JAN 2010 - Milford now dead quiet, they don't even answer my emails.

                Regards

                  Re: Milford Cargo Barrier

Milford Barrier - Still not happy.

Milford don't think there is a problem with the barrier and said they will send me some new brackets.

They sent the same ones as supplied in the kit. I think they don't want to remake the barrier 20mm shorter.

I expect they will change the tooling when more people start to complain.

Here is a photo of the new bracket that will solve all my problems

                    Re: Milford Cargo Barrier

Still no response or solution from Milford, it has been over one month since first contact after installation.

I will email them a link to this thread and see if they jump into action.

Has anyone else fitted a barrier yet ?

                      Re: Milford Cargo Barrier

One of the guys at work has a cargo barrier in his new 150 series, I had a quick look last week. I think its a Milford barrier, not 100% though. I mount points are very different to yours though, hist mounts onto the side of the vehicle, below the window.

He is back next week, I will try to get some photos then.

Yours looks quite different though, his has the cutouts similar to the 120 series, around the air vents.

                        Re: Milford Cargo Barrier

                        Hi..
I am curios to know if Milford make a different barrier for the 5 seater Gx as this model does not have
the rear airbags. I was hoping to fit a barrier that does not leave gaps on the sides for flying objects to pass !!..
Alternatively any knowldge of another supplier that may be making a barrier that is specific to the GX ?..

                        Any help/advice would be great..

                          Re: Milford Cargo Barrier

Milford customer service are hopeless. I emailed them to find out if there is a different barrier for the GX as I will be removing the third row when the VX arrives and putting drawers there. I also wanted to know where it mounts to.
The response was "We do not make a half barrier and the full barrier cannot be used with drawers" which did not answer the question asked. Of course you can use drawers with a full barrier - they just have to be the right depth! :?

I emailed them back and haven't got a response in 4 days.

                              Re: Milford Cargo Barrier

I wonder what happens when you put a Milford into a VX or Kakadu with the electic third row seats? If it is secured to the back of the seats as they are flat, what would happen if one of the kids pressed the button to raise the seats? Can you lock out the system to raise the seats to avoid damage done (I assume damage to the seat raising mechanism not the Milford barrier). I'll be looking for an option that is secured some onther way.

For my Grande 120 series I ended up with a barrier from Opposite Lock. I think it is supplied by Autosafe. It has been excellent, does not cut down on depth of storage area, and takes about 5 mins max to take out when I wish to use the third row seats.

I am concerned that if I buy a 150 and put a cargo barrier in the storage space will not be deep enough to fit my 60 litre engel. From the photos on this thread of the fridge slide it looks close. Wouldn't be surprised if the handle is touching the back door. Is that the case Sidewinder?
