  • Rock Sliders Side Protection

    Hi guys
Finally got some time over the weekend to start my rock sliders. At the moment they are just tacked together and I bolted them up to make sure of the fit. I just used the M8 threaded bolts along the chassis to bolt them up to so no drilling or welding the chassis. I picked up 14 bolt holes along there and will also put anther tab to catch the bottom of the body mounts to make sure it won't go anywhere. I am going to put some checker plate on the top as the tred and to stop stone chips and paint them black then I think they will look quite good. I am only putting these on before we go on our trip to the Cape and will remove them when we get back and put the standard ones back on.
    Here are some pics

Looks good mate, but i reckon they will slide over anything, pretty solid looking setup your working on there.

I wonder why all the bolt holes on the chassis is provided for, convenient that all the mounting points you needed were already provided.
My Rig: 150 GXL D4D, Tough Dog adjustable suspension with 60mm lift, Polyair bags, ARB Winch Bar, Warn Winch with Dynamica Rope, Outback Ideas recovery points, GME UHF, HID Low/High Beam, Lightforce Genesis HID Spots, Dual Battery Setup with rear power outlets, ARB air compressor in engine bay, ~30L Watertank mounted behind fueltank.

Good work - I like the way you have contoured the ends to ensure everything is protected. Well done

Yes there are air bags (GXL). I don't know (like everyone else) if this will effect this at all but I am not liable like a supplier if there was a problem (reason for them to do so much due dilligence). Personally can't really see it affecting side air bags much as these work on a series of sensors that run through the side body of the car and measure distortion not like front airbag sensors that are accelerometers measuring rapid deceleration and other factors. With these bolted to the chassis, a side collision from another car is just going to bend these out the way. They are made to protect the bodywork when offroad at crawling speed. Hey this is my 2 cents worth anyway. I am making further inquires to Toyota about this at at the moment but as I said I am only having these on when I go away for a trip. They bolt on in 10 minutes.

            Re: Rock Sliders Side Protection

            Hi there

Sliders worked great on our Cape trip. Did their job as I hoped they would. A few times getting out of creeks we slid accross a rutt and into the sliders. I have pushed the bash plate on the main tank in a little as we slid over a few things and am positive I would have come back with damage to the original side steps. Worth the few hundred it cost in steel to make them. I didn't put up a pic of them finished so here you go (sorry haven't cleaned the car yet).

            Thanks
            Peter
