  • Prado GXL Wallowing Suspension makes me car sick.

Finally I found a cost effective fix to the wallowing suspension on my Prado GXL.
First round-about I ever went around the car wallowed so much I stopped to check if I had a flat tyre.
If I drove on a windy road I found I was getting car sick.
I got quotes for springs and shocks which ranged from $1800 to $2500 but seems crazy to throw away perfectly good springs and shocks on the car. I also did not want to raise the vehicle or make the ride harder.
Seeing as I dont do any serious off road driving I was able to fit a whiteline Sway bar for a cost of around $900
I can recommend Sam at Pedders Capalaba. Its drives like a sports car now .Love it. Problem solved.
When the time comes that I do need replace shocks and springs which should be around 120,000km then I can make it even better.

If you wanted sports car handling you should have bought a sports car, all you've done now is reduce your car's flex and therefore reduced it's ability off road. I'm not saying that's necessarily bad, if that's what your after.

I dont do serious off road driving. Like many people I have a 4x4 for towing my boat, caravan, bike trailer etc
So for my situation the Whiteline Swaybar is perfect. Obviously its not the answer for serious off roaders.
I had big problems going through roundabouts with a trailer on and down Cunninghams Gap etc. Now its perfect.

That will do the job nicely for road use. Cunninghams Gap has always been interesting when towing and it always seems to be raining when I go through that area.

In a 150 series that is KDSS equipped, you get the best of both worlds. Whiteline have an interesting video dramatically illustrating the body roll reduction after their sway bars are installed in a Prado: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NexoJqoGUhw

530jac what tyres are you running, best mod ever is to trade the oem tyres in a fit something else.

The oem tyres are so soft in the sidewalls, they are dangerous.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

I still have the original oem tyres on but am in the process of changing them which I agree will give me further improvement.
I must say that with the way it handles now I would not have to do anything else but I know the current tyres are rubbish.

There is a number of big improvements with better tyres, feedback through the steering and front end, steering response, less dive under brakes and better braking, less body role. I am on my second 150, so have experienced the oem tyres twice, I immediately drove to the tyre joint to trade them in, the 12km was enough to remind me how bad they are.

I understand the Whiteline sway bars are a 3 way adjustable bar. Which setting is your sway bar set at? The outermost hole is the softest setting, which equates to a smaller bar.

Mine is set on the middle hole and I am happy with that.

It's good to know that you don't need the hardest setting for significant improvement. I've also discovered that the Whiteline Prado sway bar is 3-way adjustable at the front but only 2-way adjustable at the rear.

I only fitted the whiteline sway bar to the front and got good results.
If I put one on the back I am sure it would be ever better.

how does just fitting one to the front affect handling in particular balance, would increase understeer, I imagine.
But then 2.3 t of 4wd with high centre of gravity, handles like a barge anyway.

I have got whiteline adjustables front and rear on my B`spec Liberty, having played around with different settings, I certainly wouldn`t just fit one bar on that car.

I did only fit the one sway bar on the front and the difference is astounding.
I could go into a round about at double the speed I could before and the prado handles very nicely.
It does not wallow like it did before. Thats just my experience. I am sure another bar on the back would also help.

                              530jac,

Save your money quickly and change the suspension and tyres (did that with my GXL and it made a big difference) or otherwise invest in some good sea sickness tablets.
