Petrol, diesel? Steel bar, no bar? Etc etc

There is a suspension database in this section so have a read first then ask specific questions. I don't think there is much between any of the stuff sold by AZrB or TJM etc. I am really happy with the TJM stuff I have.

Thks Jason, actually I was wondering the difference between foam & gas shocks & which one would suit better for 80% on road driving ,20 % offroad.

Hi Getz, Here is a link to a basic understanding, but I would google to get a deeper understanding. Also try twin tube vs mono tube, or "digressive vs progressive or linear shocks" You will notice that "twin tube" shocks are considered old technology, and many countries such as the US recommend only Momo a Tube shocks and consider them to be far superior, and twin tube shocks sell for about $40 each, and not the $160 each as they do here. You can get Fox or Kings in the Us for $200 a corner.
In Australia, most companies that sell both gas and foam cell will only use gas on the lighter vehicles, and foam cell on the heavier vehicles.
We pay way to much for our shocks here in Oz, you can get the yellow Bilsteins for $85 each, and OME Sport shocks for the same, even though they are made in Melbourne.

What would you suggest for a suspension upgrade on a new 150 GXL D4D for remote touring ..capable but not hardcore ?

I would suggest yes, I think the front coils are to soft, watch how much the front dips when you brake, the rear coils are to soft to carry a load. I am no shock expert but I would suggest the OE shocks are built for comfort and city driving, not for corrugated outback rds. There are some vendors that sell standard height, or 25mm lifted medium and heavy duty coils that you may want to look at.

Sorr JK, only just saw this.
Foam cell or Gas is not an no road or off road difference.
Tough dog use a foam cell to help to control the oil frothing/bubbling and maintain consistency when the oil gets hot. Bilstein pressurise the shock to achieve the same results. Each manufacturer does things a little differently to achieve similar results.
The OE shocks are certainly on the soft side along with the Spring rates.

                      Regards, Jason.

Just get in touch with Jason from 4wd specialist. I went to him with an idea of what I thought I should get based on my previous experience from a number of different cars and ended up with a slightly lifted 150 that handles like a sedan and absorbs bumps heaps better than my VY SS ute but has no problem having a rear wheel in the guard and the opposite front 2' higher than the other three wheels.

I'm not trying to push any particular brand so have a chat to him but I ended up with King Springs and Tough Dog Shocks

You might notice I'm new to this site, part of the reason I joined is the help I got through a recommendation on here.

As I installed them myself I got them cheaper, unless you are mechanically inclined I would just pay someone to do it, but for under $1500 I have more than what I hoped for.

I don't putting together assembly instructions if you were gonna do it yourself. Even if you've played with other cars I'd allow 6-8hours for a full changeover.
