Air suspension issue

I think this belongs here.

I have new 2016 Prado Kakadu and the air suspension comes on intermittently sitting in park or reverse. Most often while I'm waiting for the garage door to open or close. Flat slight slope on a concrete driveway.

Anyone else experience this?

Toyota can't fault or tell me why?

Any help appreciated.

What do you mean come on intermittently?

It is designed to self level. So depending on load/terrain, the air compressor will turn on from time to time. Also you can hear a hissing sound as air is let out - again part of the self-levelling feature.

Sounds about right. Picks up the weight of occupants and resets it's levels.

Do you notice it coming on at any other time that you would consider abnormal?

It's not only backing out of garage, it can be anywhere. The wife thinks it also happened once when driving. I'm also only talking about level bitumen, not off road.

Also happened when only driver in the car. No one else.

BTW it doesn't come on automatically if I attach my Jayco expand and that has a ball weight of about 150 KGS.

When you attach the Jayco and drive off does it go back to normal height?

The buttons work. I think I'll have to turn the function off and see what happens. at the moment because it's intermittent I can't say the situation is the same each time.

They work here and there intermittently. That's their design.

Different levels. Different loads and it releases or adds air as required in short bursts.

Turn it off with button on the console overnight. Take a measurement. Bottom of rim to guard both sides. And check it again in morning. That will indicate a settling leak. Or not.

It could be your system is fine and light running is alerting you to something that's not a problem.

could well be fine as you suggest. Manuals are next to useless in explaining function and operation.

I turn it off and see what happens.

If you turn it off, it will automatically come back on after travelling above a certain speed. At least that is the case with the Grande.

As suggested, take some measurements on level ground. I believe the bottom of rim (18") to wheel arch measurement should be around 790-795mm at normal height.

OK, problem solved.

Issue was not so much the system coming on but the noise. Sounded like a hammer drill. That's why I asked if it should be coming on in the first place.

Turns out when Toyota install the tow bar there was a bracket too close to the air system and the vibration made the noise. It was quite loud. I could here it in the house with the car out front.

They moved the bracket and now I don't know ( can't hear it ) when it comes on😀
