  • Squeaky OME

    Guys,

Haven't had aftermarket suspension before, but got an OME set-up put in by ARB. It squeaks like a rusty old bed! Is this normal?

I have had it back to ARB once already and it seemed to settle down for a day or so but is now back as noisey as ever. If I grab hold of the roof rail and rock the vehicle it will squeak, it not like it only does it in extreme conditions, so it gets on my nerves on the way to and from work each day.

Any ideas what is the likely cause so I can tell ARB how to fixed it properly?

    Thanks

    Steve..

    Re: Squeaky OME

It shouldn't squeak like that. Sounds like their fix might have been a quick spray of something like WD40 to hide the squeak. I'm guessing that the top bushings are not seated correctly.

      Re: Squeaky OME

Are you sure it's the suspension? I had a similar noise and it turned out to be how they cut the inside guard when they fitted the bullbar rubbing on the bar.

        Squeaky OME

Had a very similar squeaking with new OME suspension on my Pajero. Settled down after a few weeks and was totally gone after about 6 weeks. From memory it's caused by a new compound in the shock bushes used on the new Nitrocharger Sport shocks.

          Re: Squeaky OME

We had the same squeak with our OME suspension, it was like a metal on metal squeak to it back to ARB and one of the nuts had come off that hold the top of the shock on so it was just running loose backwards and forwards on the bolt  . I would definitely take it back and get it checked out.

            Re: Squeaky OME

All sorted now - apparently one of the springs wasn't seated quite right - must have happened in the rush to change out the wrong springs they put in  .

Yep, same here, had a very bad squeak, (almost a rattle sound at times) which appeared to be coming from right front suspension.
Toyota and TJM couldn't find it. Although Toyota tried very hard by spraying silicon everywhere. (Talk about a mess.)

Had my bullbar replaced under warranty and now there is no squeak at all. So I would suggest checking that out if there's nothing to be found with the suspension.

I had a squeak on my 120 with the OME and it was the plastic cover at the top of the strut rubbing on the strut.

I'm far from an expert on these matters but recall a thread about new suspension needing to be "tightened up" under load?? If the nuts are all done up tight when the vehicle is up on the hoist the load on the various bushes etc remains a constant when it's back on the ground. Nothing under stress on the hoist and everything under stress when it's just sitting on the deck. Something like that anyway. I'm sure one of the gurus will know the real story.
                      Cheers,
