  • Kakadu Tyres

I am looking to replace the original tyres on the Kakadu the spare never used , the others done 25000 ks, I was looking at the Coopers A/T any comments?
Also as we are setting off next month on the big trip up to Kimberley and beyond 3months . I need an extra wheel to carry have put on a roof rack from tradesman and have a holder for the wheel ,question is where do I get a spare rim
from to fit and match the Kakadu?

I put on a set of yokahama Geolander A/T's and found them a big improvement over the factory tyres. I today took them off after 4000ks to go for something a bit taller and wider than stock and chose Cooper Zeon LTZ 285x60x18's they are quite chunky to look at get great reviews and are very quiet considering the tread. If your heading off on a trip choose a tyre that is tough and at least an A/T also a tyre readily in stock so you don't wait weeks or months if you need another. A factory Kakadu rim will be hard to get unless you pay $345,677 for a new one but CSA make a wheel called Sniper that fits and Speedy do a nice wheel called Chariot which also fits.

Its hard finding a better tyre for the 18" rims...you've got

Mickey/T five ribs Good tyre, very dear, low road noise
Cooper ATR's not bad good price plenty of stock but newer AT3 now out.
Cooper Zeon LTZ's I like them so far good allrounder.
Yokahamas great tyre, OK price, not too aggressive..

        plus a few others

As for the extra wheel, you could always get a 17" wheel with an ET25 offset and mount the same tread type and overall diameter to keep the costs down.
          eg:
          265/65R17 = 265/60R18
          265/70R17 = 265/65R18

The problem is fiinding the same tread pattern and overall diameter across both 17" and 18" wheels. So you are better off looking at the same tread type.
The best I could find based on a websearch is the Cooper ATR. It is available in both the 265/65R17 & 265/60R18. However, note that it is not in the light truck construction.

As for Cooper AT tyres, I believe that the A/T3 is the replacement for the ATR. The ATRs are getting phased out as more A/T3 sizes come out.

Check out e-bay for your rims, Sydney City Auto Parts have a set of 4, 18 x 7.5 original equipment rims for $1800.00. I have dealt with them before and they listed the specific part I required. As for your tyres troll thru the threads for reviews, as everyone has a differing opinion on their rubber.

                Good luck and enjoy,
