  • 285/70R17 on GXL alloys +25mm O/S without scrubbing

    Guys,

    I知 having dramas.

I致e been talking to a number of suspension companies (Autocraft, Monster Rides and Superior) in regards to a 3 inch lift with UCA's, diff drops etc etc etc all in an effort to fit 285/70R17 tyres. I知 not going to muck around with the suspension, I want it done right the first time.

Both Superior and Monster Rides recommend a rim that is +20mm OS or less. The Superior engineering Prado has the suspension I知 looking at, with 285/70's on +20mm rims and they just touch the UCA's on full lock, just touch.

Now as far as I know the GXL alloy is 17x7.5 with +25mm OS (correct me if I知 wrong). So with a +20mm rim I知 5mm too short with the GXL alloy.

Has anyone managed to squeeze 285/70's on the GXL alloys? If yes what tyre and suspension setup did you have?

I haven稚 budgeted for new wheels or mentally prepared the misses (and that alone could take weeks).

    Cheers
    Chris

Rim width plays a big part too. even going from a 7.5" to a 8" with the same offset can get you in trouble.

Yeah I have been drooling over both yours (derek11) and agers150 builds...

I was kind of hoping to keep it to a 3 inch lift and the standard rims, but from what I can tell I will need less offset on the rims.

The kits I have been looking into is Autocraft King or Radflo (about 5K) or Monster rides (about 4K) or the Superior Profender kit (3K)

Maybe time to price some Walker Evans beadlock rims and get really serious....

Standard GXL rims with 285s wont fit you will have scrubbing issues, ive got 8.5" x 17 rims with +14 offset and they are just about perfect, like Steve has said it will be different with different width rims.

Prices for Walker Evans Street locks

            17 x 8.5in with 4.75in backspace (about +12 I think) $500 ea!

            Ouch.

Might have to settle for 265/70R17

Nothing wrong with 265/70R17's mate, they take me everywhere I want to go! But yeah, with the right cash, it'd be fun to set up like an NT rig, even though not legal here in sunny Qld:cry:

              Cheers,

Dont forget to factor in speedo correction, diff gearing and engineering costs if you "really" want to do it properly. 3" and 33's are still on my to do list but 2" and 32's do the job for now (technically still requires engineering though)...

I know the 265/70 will get me where I need to go... Just wishful thinking.

I would prefer the 285's but its heading towards the too hard basket. Especially after I touched on the subject with SWMBO.

I almost lost a limb!!! hahaha

RE the engineering and gearing, speedo correction etc etc Im still heading towards a 3 inch lift, using Radflo shocks

Can someone give an indication of what the gearing is like on either the 265 or 285's (ordered an Auto)
