  • BFG A/T 265/70/R17 in Perth ($$)

    Hi Guys, has anyone had any recent success in getting a good price on these tyres ? I am after one size up from standard (265/65/R17) as from my research this is legal and within the +50mm increase range of WA law.

    I have 20,000km on my dunlops and best I have been offered is $50 for each tyre and $380 for the BGFs so still a total price of around $1650. 4 other phone calls and next closest offer was $420 per tyre and no swap over discount.

    Sell the dunlops on eBay.
    You should not need to pay more than $350 each tyre.
    Check eBay, not sure on freight or who imported them, but cheap.
    Not sure about w.a, but in Vic, I get them closer to $300 than $350!
    Even Arb are about $350.

      I just bought new 265/70/17 BFG's for $350 a corner fitted and balanced and old tyres disposed of, and thats country prices so I would think in the city you get at least that good a price.

      Your Dunlops wouldn't be worth much, as #### suggested try eBay!

      Cheers Andrew

        $270ea from St george Tyres in Sydney
        http://www.stgeorgetyres.com.au/tyre...ct-detail.aspx

        There's also Tempe Tyres and Don Cornell Tyres in Sydney who have competitive pricing. Don Cornell is a grey importer and I have recently bought from them some Cooper CS4s for the missus' car. No hassles with them. Not sure if St george and Tempe tyres are grey importers as well.

          Here in Perth, everyone, and I mean everyone is cashing in on the mining boom money. Bugger all discounts, you really need to hunt around.

          It's working out a lot cheaper to import them at the moment over here, but then you do have the warranty issue.

          Prepare, are you NOR or SOR?

          Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

            Thanks guys - I am NOR.

            Understand everything is going to be cheaper over east. 5 years in Perth and I just accept it. Got 3 more prices this morning and all around $400 with no stock.

            First place I called with RRP of $380 - $50 swap over per dunlop seems the most reasonable so far.

              Give Tyres Plus in Mirrabooka a try, heard they have done some good prices lately. But I wouldn't expect much, if anything, for your old rubber.

                Will BFG 265/70/17s fit on the standard rear door spare wheel mount on a 150 without spacers? (starting to plan for my next set)

                        If you are getting $50.00 trade for your old used tyres , grab it as there is virtually no market here in the West for second hand tyres that size at the moment, the only time an oe tyre is worth anything (to sell) is when it is still fairly new (under 100km's on it)

                        the other option is to keep em and sell em on ebay or gumtree like was previously said

                          Hi Guys, update on this. found them for $345 and another place for $350 including free puncture repair, and tyre rotation for the life of the tyre. Seems resonable.

                          My concern now is that I was trying to read up on insurance implications. From what I can find in WA you are allowed a +50mm increase in tyre diameter however I also read something that only allows a maximum of +50mm increase in total height of the car.

                          * 265/65 to 265/70 has a 26.5mm increase in height
                          * a 2 inch lift in theory will provide a 50mm increase.

                          I suspect/hope I am reading the modifcation rules incorrectly.

                              265/65R17 to 265/70R17 is a 13mm increase in height. With the addition of a 2" lift, yes it would go over the limits. Not sure what the ruling is exactly for your state but you may have to get it engineered. There may also be implications for vehicles with stability control which further limits the total lift.
