  • Dunlops AT22

Since purchasing these tyres I have had nothing but trouble..(actually for 4,000 klm's they appeared to be fine) then things started to go "pear shaped".Dunlops attitude was "we can sell you these others" No Chance..!! All the tyres are from the same batch (2912) so age is not a problem..Not 1 not 2 but 3 have developed what appears to be "internal Failure."The tyres have been rotated 2 times so far and the balanced checked 3 times Beside the original fitment. In my "quest" to identify the problem I was invited to put the vehicle on a Dyno (real world)and the results were videoed.. Not good to say the least.Dunlops attitude (local dealers) is not good..I have forwarded the Video to my preferred Toyota dealer and how far they escallate the problem is their call.. In my views the tyres are to be consided as (Trailer tyres ONLY)and speed limited to less then 120 klm/h.(from the Dyno video)
I will try to upload the video for all to see what I mean.

What is the size of the tyre?

I have the AT22 in the 265.60.18 and cant fault them.

So far I've travelled over 57,000km and still plenty of wear. Rotated ever 10k during the service.
I have been trying to wear them down so I can buy a more aggressive tyre, but they have been performing excellent.

Maybe you do have a bad batch?!?

    Cheers,

Tyre size is 265/65-17.My original tyres were AT20 and i got 60,000 klms out of them with no probs at all( recon they may have lasted another 20,000 as well)..(unfortunately got damaged when a star picket was driven in to them on a trail that a few frequent and damaged 2.I suspect you are right as to a bad batch. One of the tyres is now up to 120 gms weight to keep it balanced !! At the present rate of wear i doubt i will get 20,000 out of them.

Heads up..The tyres were made in Thailand....so the wording from Dunlop Australia is "Too bad".It appears that the ones made in Japan come with a "Warranty"..
        Cheers

Warranty on any type of tires is worthless . There are too many ifs buts or maybes that manufacturers or retailers can can pull out to void the warranty .

Re warranty being worthless.....I have a different experience.
For what it's worth i have yokahama geolanders on my 150 kakadu and have had two tyres replaced due to punctures on rough tracks...in both instances I didn't realise immediately and so caused severe damage to the tyres (clearly need a TPMS system). Yokohama replaced both tyres and credited the value of unused tread. ie; 80% tread left on the ruined tyre and they discount replacment by 80%. In both instances which were a year apart - no questions asked at all. Pretty good warranty. I think it might be limited to 25% tread left....not sure. Regardless in each instance there was no argument - local tyre retailer rang in to Yokohama and got approval without any hassle.
Thought others may like to know.

Was that warranty or the tyre insurance you can buy from the tyre shop??? Because although it was an accident the damage was completely your fault and I don't know any place that would give "warranty" replacements for what you've described.
I've had the same experience but with motorbikes and it was the insurance package not warranty.

                  Kav, JSS,
                  Warranty not insurance.
The warranty is provided by the manufacturer...Yokohama - not the retailer. When I purchased the tyres I was given paperwork for the warranty from Yokohama. I was surprised also given circumstances - but twice used it without any hassels.
Not sure if it was a special promotion or still available. Will find out soon enough as getting close to time for 2 new ones.

Good stuff , I'm just jaded after reading so many different posts and having seen personally the excuses that come out when the tire was clearly defective and nobody wants to absorb the costs . Good PR for Yokohama ! I've always liked their tires .

That is awesome aftersales backup of a product and they should be praised for it. you'll have to let us know if you get the same warranty with the 2 new tyres as that kind of service/backup would sway me into using their products.

When I needed tyres 2 years ago I got my mind set on Geolanders because of 2 people I know that already had them. So after ringing about 9 stores, Bob Jane was the best priced and so I got the warranty with the tyres as a nice unexpected Had to take the car back to them for the 'book servicing'... no biggie

Here's the website with the goss... http://www.yokohama.com.au/en/News-a...rotection.aspx

Been happy with them, good on and off road, excellent on sand as they bag out really well. Got about 30,000 out of them so far and look like they'll go for about 50k all up, so not mega k's but imo good value for money

                        Cheers

Won't that put your speedo out as your circumference is now larger?

Riv.. I thought that it would .But now it reads "Perfect"..checked with a sat-nav and a Garmin gps..."Apparently" Toyota has their speedo's over-read a bit..Mine was before I changed the size...
