  • Decrease in recommended track - will this be an issue?

I get my new 150 Prado soon and I want to put the Speedy wheels 17" liquid black Grandes on it. After the tyre place told me they'd fit I found out that they will have an offset 5mm less than standard/recommended. Will this cause any issues for the vehicle (e.g. alignments, tyre wear)?

    It will make it unroadworthy.

No problems from that point of view, just so long as you realize that if you were to have an accident such as a rollover and your insurance company picks up on the decreased track you may not have any insurance.

Thanks guys. When speaking with one tyre dealership it was mentioned that there could possibly be a problem with the wheel alignment, so it got me worrying. Perhaps I should consider powder-coating the originals, but I think the Grandes look nicer.

If you are going to do that watch the fronts. The 120 GX steelies I have shod with 275/65s that used to be on my trailer rub on the front.

To be honest -10mm on track should be no big deal but I wouldn't do it. +20 yes please.

Another member here runs the Black Grande rims on his 150 without issue. He had a GX so different starting point for track in his case, but suspension and wheel alignment wise tree should be no difference between the models.

              Cheers Andrew

Sorry mj, I'm having trouble getting my head around your last post. Are your front tyres rubbing? And are they 120 steelies on a 150?
And finally, I don't get the "+20 yes please". Sorry mate.

Andrew, I assume the Grande is legal for the GX??? They have a narrower track than the GXL don't they?

Doesn't the GX have a wider track than the GXL?

I just looked it up AussieAndy - yes they do. I thought they were different, i just went the wrong way.
And now that I think about it, I see why the Grande can sit 'in' an extra 5mm on the GX

Not really sure on the track of the GX, just know a guy that runs them.

Re the +20, MJ would be referring to increasing the track by 20mm, which is legal and widens the stance of the vehicle which should increase stability.

                      Cheers Andrew

The 150 GX has narrower rims and so the track is widened to compensate. The GX offset is ET15. It is actually worse fitting 120 rims to 150 GX in terms of track reductions.

I run 275/65s on standard 150 GXL rims. When I had the 120 I had Phoenix alloys so I fitted the 7.5" wide GX steelies with 275/65s on the trailer so I could have extra spares. When I put the 275s on the 150 GXL rims they are really close to the front strut. As the 120 GX rims were just for emergencies I test fitted them at home. The extra offset plus the wider tyre meant they touch at the front. Not everywhere just in a few places during suspension movement. So I was going to use them on the back only in an emergency. Now I am getting rid of them altogether.

As the Andrews have said 120 rims on a 150 GX is much more reduction in track. The rules allow an increase in track of +25mm (+50mm without ESC) so I would happily do that to increase track and stability. Sorry if it was confusing. QCOP doesn't allow any reduction in track thus my comment the vehicle would be unroadworthy.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I've got a lot to think about.
it would be less of a headache if the dealer hadn't incorrectly told me that the Grande would suit my 150 - I fell in love with them and now I can't get them out of my head.

                              To summarise:
                              120 GXL/Grande ET30
                              150 GXL ET25
                              150 GX ET15

So as the number increases, the track reduces.
