Hi, We really need new tyres...on 150 series GXL. MOney is tight at the moment. We have Michelin at the moment but the mechanic recommend Firenza at $110 cheaper knowing that money is tight. He says they will do everything our current tyres do and possibly last longer..... What is the consensus?? I know you get what you pay for....I don't want to throw good money after bad... What about grip, wear and noise... Whatever we purchase will have to go on Credit Card :-(. If not Firenza, what are better alternatives that are not excessively expensive... I guess what we use them for is important. Mostly domestic use but have been to Simpson Desert, Innamincka, and more frequently Bribie and tracks around Brisbane. We are very green......any advice greatly appreciated. :-)

Unfortunately generally the good tires cost more for light truck over Passenger construction. My wife's Fiesta came with Michelin and they didn't make it to the third service from new. No experience of Firenza though.
Have you checked out the latest Unsealed 4x4 mags segment on All Terrain Tires for some ideas?

What's the budget per tyre? You only said $110 cheaper, but cheaper than what $$$?
Buying tyres based on price alone is not a good idea. A cheap tyre could only last 40,000km, whereas a more expensive tyre could last 100,000km. Then you have the good value ones that might be in the middle for $$$ but will still last 100,000km.

I'm looking into getting new tyres for my prado too - from what I have found, you cant get quality under $250 - 300 a tyre.
Plus, Im used to performance & passenger cars where you change tyres every 20 - 40,000ks, so spending not even a couple of hundred more than what I do now for potentially 100,000+ks is bloody awesome value to me!

I'm quickly approaching 90,000 on my Mickey Thompson ATZ's, at the time the $395/tyre nearly broke me but geez it was money well spent..
FWIW I reckon I could get to 100,000 but I do take care of them though.Cheers
Micheal.

Sorry....should have added that..... $295 to replace the Michelin and $185 for the Firenza's.

I have the Toyo AT II, got them in Perth for around $250 per tyre.
They seem to be a good quality alternative to the more expensive popular tyres. They are light truck rated and have a very nice deep and wide tread.
In America these same tyres come with a 100,000km treadwear warranty. Obviously you dont get that here but surely that shows you'll get good mileage out of them.
They do make a little noise on the road, but aren't over the top like a mud terrain, they do well on the beach, 18psi and nothing stopped me.

Although I didn't do a flashy table up like spilsy, it's the tyre I would go with time again. The D697 can be had for $269 everyday and at the moment you buy a set of 4 and get a $100 fuel card. Brings the cost of each tyre down to $244 for a good quality LT construction AT, awesome value in my oppinion.[LEFT]Silver 150 Facelift
