  • General Grabber AT2 Tyres - Has or is anyone running these Tyres?

I'm up for a new set of Tyres for the missus's Prado and definitely moving away from the Federal Couragia M/T's as they are far too noisy onroad, but great offroad.

Looking @ a set of General Grabber AT2 and was curious as to what others have experienced with these tyres....

Hi rob, read the thread on Nitto terra grapplers. I had been looking to replace the oem Grandtreks after 50k and was confused by all the options. Read all the threads on Pradopoint. Preferred option the BFG Ko 2's but at around $350 ea was more than I wanted to pay. In the end, got 5 Toyo AT2's for $1100 and couldn't be happier. Don't notice any difference in road noise compared to Grandtreks and feels like I've got a new suspension. Great ride, great on dirt.

Could've got 5 x Yokohama Geolanders for same price but they're not LT construction. Bought my tyres from Tyreright.

Dr Air Pro 150 ltr air compressor. ARB 60 ltr fridge. GME 3550s UHF radio. Hema HX1.

i am running a set of these. They were on the car when we got it with only 2000ks on them. This was the 2nd set from the previous owner who got approx 100,000ks form a set, and they are priced pretty well.

As for my experience, they seems pretty good, but being my first fourby and I have not taken them in the mud at all I am not sure what feedback I can give... any specific questions you have?

Well, I've managed to pickup a 2nd hand set of 5 for $800. Had to move quick so after checking them out and the tread depth, I bought them. The seller said they only had 4000kms on them and after measuring the tread depth, I'd say he's probably right.

i want to run out the M/Ts out before I swap them over.....

ive had these for three years now. put them on the car at 8000kms, now at 70000 and still have 12mm tread left. Been really impressed with them off road. As long as you air down they grip like sh1t to a blanket. Initially i was worried that the sidewalls were a bit soft but i have only had one puncture in the entire time ive had them and that was down to a tek screw....ive been through the high country, beach driving, outback SA etc etc and they have been great. Only got bogged once and that was grounding out on my belly.

Unfortunately im now getting a new set of FJ wheels that come with cooper ST maxxs...it will be interetsing to see if something twice the price is twice as good...feedback from the original owner is no way! Anyway time will tell.
2013 (12 build) GX Auto.......with safari snorkel, toyota bar, tow bar, roof racks, led spots with fancy newpro switchgear, uniden remote UHF and aerial, ARB bash plates, Roadsafe recovery points, digoptions radio, general grabber AT2s, cheap ebay roof rack that has stood up surprisingly well.....

How have you found your Coopers? I'm going through the same process, just dropped the FJ rims in for powdercoating but still undecided on the rubber. Guy at the powdercoating place drives a 120 and has the Discover S/T, he's happy with them.

              Hi fiddo
The ST maxx are better than the ST
The Grabbers are good as well.
I am a tyre dealer, havent run the ST Maxx but had a set of Grabbers on a Hilux.
Done the Birdsville track in the wet 2010 and it was wet, no problems at all.
Had the early ATR cooper and the replacement ATR3 is much better.
Mining group was on ST and had a lot better run out of ST Maxx.
Had the Kumho SAT on Hilux when I sold it, they were good as well. Just a slight feather on out side edge, but tyre rotation fixed that.
              Cheers
              Charlie

Thanks for the input Charlie. I've just hear a few horror stories about Coopers splitting and de-laminating so I'm a bit put off. Supposedly they have an excellant warranty but how easy it is to claim on is the question.

I used to have a set of the Coopers on a precious car. They had an 80K warranty on them, but you had to get them aligned and rotated at an approved place every 10K, and if you had to claim on the warranty, it was just pro rata off the cost of a new set (fair enough I suppose). In the end they started to split and delaminates around 50K, so I ditched them and went with a different brand. They had seen a fair bit of sand (low pressure) and gravel, but hey, that's what they're designed for, right?

I have read some good reports on the General Tyres (now owned by Continental).
Another option (not discussed much) might be http://www.michelin.com.au/AU/en/tir...ude-cross.html or even (semi AT) https://www.tyresales.com.au/buy/tyr...r17/101560?q=4

I am running a set of the General Grabber SRL...aggressive AT.
I have known about the grabbers for years being from Canada

Once on the Prado the truck was completely different. My Mate is running the AT2 and loves them.

Both will be put to the big test as we leave for the Cape on Saturday

Pat Callinan uses them, ask him and he will tell you they are fantastic - at least he isn't biased

I currently have 20,000k's on a set of KO2's, and I can't recommend them highly enough!

Coopers were his last tyres and they were fantastic.

Prior to that he was running Pirelli and you know what? - they were fantastic also!
                            Cheers
