  • Broken UHF aerial

    Gday all,

On my recent trip UHF aerial broke in half. I was annoyed as its only a few years old. It was an RFI one that i think a few on here recommended, cant find one on the net now, it had a big bulge part way up thenwent to a think wire at the top, maybe 60 cms overall, i could be wrong. Anyway, someone in the club had a similar problem also in a Prado. Someone else thought this might have been a common problem for bull bar mounted aerials on the Prado, has anyone had a similar experience?

    Thanks

    Re: Broken UHF aerial

Have a look in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1183

They last pretty well, but do eventually break apparently. RFI no longer recommends them for diesel bullbar mounts.

    Mine's still going strong.

Thanks for that, will look into it....

Is it true with a broken aerial you can ruin your UHF?

        Re: Broken UHF aerial

I've got the RFI aerial on my diesel bull bar as well, its done quite a bit of rough stuff up in the Pilbara without any problems.

However, I did notice in some of the pictures of one of the recent Simpson desert crossings dirttrackers aerial on his 120 series looked like it had come apart, but it looks like he caught it on something as opposed to it falling apart. Check his photos in this link.

I had a flimsy Uniden aerial break on me during a round Australia trip several years ago, it made very little difference to the performance of my GME which is now fitted inside the Prado and still working well. I'm a little surprised and disappointed to hear that the RFI aerials are no longer recommended for diesel bull bars.
