brake pump - 2001 vx

Hi all

First posting, great website, very helpful.

I bought a 2001 vx a few months ago and am very happy with it. I have one question re the brake pump - how often should I hear it running?

It currently runs as follows:

- on startup for about 5 seconds.
- intermittantly when car is stationary - ie when stopped at the lights and pressure gently on the pedal. It will only run for a couple of seconds in such cases.

Is this normal? I'm thinking because it is coming on intermittantly it is re boosting the pressure when might mean that the brake fluid should be replaced. However if you guys reckon this is normal I won't waste my time.

Normal but if brake fluid hasn't been replaced for some years get it replaced
