You could look up both the manual and auto on http://www.toyodiy.com and see if the part number of the transfer case and internals are the same. I just had a quick look and picked a year at random (1999) and both auto and manual had the same transfer assembley being part 36110. Double check and don't take my word but it looks ok.

Ummmm.. doubt it's as simple as just bolting on. Whilst I'll bet they share some parts, I think the transfer and gearbox is one unit.glen_ep - engineered, 4" lift, 33" 255/85R16, lockers, 4.88 ratios www.pradopoint.com.au/showthread.php?17237 www.youtube.com/user/glenep www.fb.com/groups/ToyotaPrado90

Yes they are the same T-case on both manual and auto except for Auto's with traction control that have an electronically activated diff lock.Declan: 1997 GXL 4.5 Auto 80 series on LPG, ARB bullbar, 2" OME lift, 32" MTZ, GME UHF, rear ARB locker, Kaymar spare wheel carrier

I'm pretty sure they are the same part between the auto and manual.
The gearbox and transfer case are seperate units (meaning, they bold together).97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

thanks scaffer, i think my problems are solved for now. i looked at several different models auto and manual and got the same part number as you 36110 right back to the 06 auto.
@glen_ep by looking at the diagram it seems to be that the shaft going into the gearbox is removed in a similar way to a cv joint. by looking at the vehicle im quite sure they do unbolt from the transmission. i just hope im right otherwise it means replacing a transmission with nothing wrong with it. hears the link to the diagram of the transfer case if u are interested
